The Chronicles of Riddick
Does anyone have this game? It is getting a lot of praise from places like Gamespot.com. I saw the movie and didn't really get into it. Is the game anything like the movie? Is it a good game?

I have it- I must say I think the game is greatly overrated (as do others that I know that have played it). I have no intention of ever playing it again- It really doesn't do anything well- and the language- seems like every other word is the f word. I have no idea how it got such a high rating.

^Good to know. I was wondering how it came out of no where and has good reviews with very little buzz going around about it. I'll hold my money until it goes down in price more. Thanks!

I was wondering because it picked up quite a few of the top spots in Gamespots Best & Worst of 2004 awards. Half Life 2 should have filled more of those spots including best graphics. Maybe it's my older video card but Half Life 2 looks a lot better to me on the highest settings than Doom III on ultra settings. The textures are a lot better.

I always take Gamespot with a grain of salt. The praise for that game seemed too over the top to be honest.

Ive just finished it and i must say i thought it was fantastic. The real actor voices and the ai is amazing . Played it over two weeks and couldnt get off it. 3 days after i got it i got my new graphics card, and played it on the highest setting with all the eye candy , and on 1600 x 1200, just fantastic.
Far far better than doom 3.

Guess its a matter of taste- I didn't like the fist fighting (no challenge at all and not at all like fighting games- mostly just how fast you can click the mouse), I didn't like the inability to pick up weapons- although I thought the bio mech levels were pretty good- but all that swearing- just got old quickly. I agree though, that the voice acting was some of the best I've heard.

The Chronicles of Riddick is worth a game rental. I also think it is worth buying but it's very short with very little replay value. I think that the reason this game got such good reviews was because, many video games made after movies aren't very fun ot play. But COR has great gameplay, a good storyline, nice graphics and atmosphere basically it's the opposite of Enter the Matrix.

Phew!
I was this close to buying it yesterday! Good thing I decided to wait for more reviews.

I think some people are being a bit harsh on the game. I thought it was very involving and complex, ok some of the fights are easy , but what do you expect , tekken ???? play it on hard mode and see how far you get. I thought it was well put together and well thought out. certainly one of my best games of 2005.

^Good point. For me tho, I don't know anything about Riddick and the series he is in. So I don't think I'll enjoy it as much. I'll wait for a price drop.

I think my point comes from the original message about the rating Gamespot gave it- Gamespot rated this gamer higher than any other game in the last 24 months with the exceptions of World of Warcraft and UT 2004. Riddick was rated higher than Half-LIfe II, COD, and Farcry and was rated the same as GTA-Vice City. I really enjoyed these games and thought Riddick was going to be just as good;however, at least for me; it really wasn't close. It's not a bad game by any means- I just don't agree with Gamespot that it is one of the greatest games ever; hence, in my opinion, it is overrated.

I thought the game was actually pretty decent. There's not much replay value, but after you play through it once, there's a commentary mode that's pretty fun to examine.
The way I see it, the Chronicles of Riddick DVD cost me $20. So that's 20 bucks for let's say a 2 hour movie. The PC game cost me $30. That's 30 bucks for like 8 hours of gameplay. All things considered, that's rather fair. I thought the game could have been done a little better, but in all honesty it's worth it as it's rather enjoyable. I agree that people are judging this game way too harshly. They pulled off the game in a reasonable timespan and it does offer interesting gameplay. I say, if you liked Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick, then you'll like this game. Go out and buy it, what can you lose.

I think it is much more suited to consoles than computers. But a good game nonetheless.

Well, there you have it. Everyone has different tastes and likes and dislikes.
Never played Riddick, but saw the movie on TV and it was ok. Computer games I like are Morrowind (one of the best rpg's) Half Life 2 (for the graphic's, however plays a lot like a arcade game to me. Get thru one puzzle and start a different one, with different graphic's) Aquanox for the graphic's and story line. So, there is my take, again just a matter of personal taste. One man's garbage is another mans gold. Go figure? Regards...........................................Sterling
