Whats a good racing game?

Are there any good racing games out there? Games like GT4, where you can buy, modify race your own cars and stuff. I think it would be awsome if GT4 was for PC and you could race your own custom machine against other people on the net. But Im not about to go out and buy a PS2. Is there something thats popular or comparible for PC?

What kind of racing are you looking for? If it's stock car, then the best true sim out there is Papyrus' Nascar Racing 2003 season. Hands down the best. Check out Blackhole Motorsports web site. There are many online leagues, most are free. If you want to race the computer it's still the best. You can paint your car and add decals, #s whatever. You will send your car file to the league and receive the files from other members, and you will see the cars just as they've been painted by the other fellows. Theres tons of stuff out there for the sim. Virtual tracks and actual tracks.

Bugger... I was going to recommend GT4.... it's unbelievable, brilliant in every respect (so far, only had it for a day so far).
NFS series, including the 2 NFSUG
Colin McRae Rally is a good rally car game, well worth a look
You'll have to be more specific about what you want...

Although, now I think of it, there's an awesome Interstate truck game out there... search the forums, someone should have mentioned it

well what i really want is GT4 for PC. But thats never gonna happen, so I guess I really want the next closest thing. I might give NFSU 2 a try.
