Half-Life 2 cheats

I was trying to bring up the console by pressing the tilda ~ key, but it does not seem to do anything. I thought it would be fun to rough up those arrogant guards at the beginning of the game with the super gravity gun.

Any ideas?

You probably need to enable the console option like with the original Half Life 1. Basically you right click on the shortcut icon for Half Life, go to properties, and add "- console" to the end of the string in the target field. I know that works for Half Life 1.

But I did find this from a Google search, try this:

"In order to enable the console, you will need to go to the Half Life 2 “Options” menu, then select “Keyboard,” then “Advanced,”, then checkbox “Enabled Developer Console."

I've finished the game and continue to play the different levels. I love the game, it's the best ever I think. I'm tempted to download the top one on the link you listed, but......... I would hate to screw up a good thing. I didn't have the trouble many have had trying to get up and playing offline. If all went south on the installation of the mods, will I have trouble installing the game again on my system, seeing it's been installed once already? As I understand it, I can't even give the game to someone else and they load it on their system. Steam won't allow it?? So, you see I'm a bit hesitant to try the mods even though it's very tempting.

I never really thought about anything going wrong, didn't cross my mind lol . Maybe there is some risk, but all the mods install into thier own part of the hl2 directory, and in the steam "play games" list they are seperate, so you can play the modded version or the originall whenever you want. I guess I'm just saying its unlikely anything will go bad.

to bring up the console go to options/advanced and check the box that says enable console. Then you will be good to go.

Almost, at the end of the target field you have to input -devmap -console. Then when in the game to enable cheats you have to type in sv_cheats 1.

I said it once obvioulsy i have to repeat it. You do not need to change the command line parameters or mess with the game in any way the console is built in.

Whoa!, missed that when I read through, I didn't see that little box to check so I enabled the console with the -devmap -console thing.

Don't worry about the cheat commands. CHEATS ARE BAD If you really need to cheat then do a google search. I cannot contribute to the delenquincy of a gamer. Just keep trying till you kill what ever it is you need killed. It gets easier everytime you die.

Either that, or it just gets you more frustrated

if you use cheats from the get-go youll get bored with the game fairly quick. the only game i use cheats for is Vice City, just so i can go around and have fun harassing the population .

I hate to be a party pooper, but you cannot get the super gravity gun in any level except those in which it is your only weapon. Well... or at least to my knowledge. I've tried it different ways but could not in any way get anything but the regular gravity gun. HOWEVER, you can adjust its settings and like, lift garbage bins and stuff to toss around. Above a certain level the game started acting slow and funny.

Talking

Well I have completed the game from start to finish twice. I'm now just playing particular parts I especially liked. I really liked the bridge. In fact it's one of the few games I didn't cheat playing.
