Psp

So, the PSP isn't exactly a real computer, but it sort of is, so where better to talk about it than PCMech? Anyhow, with the PSP releasing here in the U.S in a week or so, I was just wondering if you guys think it spells the end for Nintendo (in its current form anyway). I don't know what's happened to Nintendo over in Japan since the launch over there, but it seems like the PSP isn't going to help their situation any over here. It is better than the DS and can do a lot more stuff, although it is more expensive. And Nintendo is already undoubtedly crushed in the console market by both it's competitors. It seems like most PS2 owners would much rather go for a PSP than a DS. The PSP certainly isn't and NGage type thing, you know, a portable with no hype. There's already over a hundred games in production and its got great specs hardware wise. It's strange really, Nintendo has been virtually unchallenged in the handheld market for a long time now. They've really got to shape up, even if it means compromising their current target audience if you know what I mean. Yoshi can only interest you up to a certain age. Any thoughts?

the problem with the PSP is the battery life. it supposedly has around a 3-5 hour battery life when playing games and around 2-3 when watching movies. DS has limited titles and so does PSP. I really don't see any games which i really want to play whereas i did before with a GBA

both nintendo and sony are pretty much even in japan (been there done that lol im japanese) u could say that sony is working extra hard (release of PSX in December 2003, US release was about 6months later) but so is nintendo, ive seen some awesome games from them (dont know what they called lol pretty complicated) the graphics on some of them are awesome. in the us they released resisdent evil 4 for gamecube (also in japan but a different version) and those graphics are awesome. ps2 is reaching the end of the graphic power (somewhat lol) both gamecube and xbox are way newer. due to the fact sony has been working on the PS3 and the PSP. Battery life is still hard i guess but u think they last longer since laptops use more power... anyways...

now the DS and other gameboy sp games there is alot of them in japan which some of them are shipping to US (i hope they send one of those awesome rpgs... im not a fan but this game is awesome!) and correct they have not been unchallenged for a long time. but now there is a challenge. PSP uses new technolgoy based on old so they can create more graphics. the DS is now challeged becuz of the specs. due to that im hoping the DS would put out some awesome games... anyhow ill look into it on the japan side and see if i can tell whats gonna happen US side too...

rather bored Japanese...

off to KOTOR II lol

ds

when it comes to hanhelds i will always be in favor of nintendo because
1) They are suitable to play on long flights and car journeys unlike a psp where i have heard the max battery life is 4 hours, 10 on a ds

2) They look amazing and are amazing.

I would advise anyone to get a ds because it has been carefully thought out.

On a psp sony went for raw power and amazing graphics which serverly limits the battery life between charges, A ds has good graphics yet lasts up to 10 hours

Each to their own really.... it's going to be the same as the PS2 vs N64 debate a few years back
