My friend's old PC was a ~700mhz Compaq with 98SE & on-board video, Diablo II ran fine without the Blizzard updates.
The newer PC has a MachSpeed Mobo, P4 2.4 CPU, 512mb Ram, 40gig WD HDD, XP Pro. I reformatted HDD, reloaded XP, loaded mobo drivers, loaded ATI driver, loaded Diablo II 1.0. If I try to run Diablo II the video flickers/flashes & goes black and processor locks-up. So I tried to load other games. I loaded FarCry, the game ran fast & smooth with resolution cranked to high in all options. I didn't error or stall once - beautiful! But Diablo II still acts the same. the software disks are like new & worked fine before this new PC. I downloaded the Diablo II updates, & downloaded the ATI 9200 XP updates. The video still flickers/flashes when first opened but does run. Any suggestions before I continue to load all the other programs/software? Last edited by caesar; 03-15-2005 at 08:12 AM. |

Try the 4.3 or 4.8 cat drivers.

Here's my current versions loaded:
Catalyst 5.3 2D Version 6.14.10.6510 Package Version 8.111-050222a-021277c I noticed when The Diablo II software suggests using "3D" Version. Which download should I select from ATI's Website? My OS is XP Ser.Pack 1 Will going backward in versions be effective? Thanks! Last edited by caesar; 03-16-2005 at 02:53 PM. |

It is sometimes effective with older games.
I'm running the 4.8's on my rig. The 4.3's and the 4.8's were the most stable of the the 4.x's |

Run the video test.exe in diablo 2 and choose the direct draw instead of D3D if you haven't tried that already.
