CS:S lags for 1-4 seconds at random times?

**Tried getting help at steampowered.com, But no-one replied **

Hey all, CS:S runs pretty much flawlessly on the highest settings except for one thing. 1-2 times a round my screen will just freeze up for a few seconds, then by the time it unfreezes I'm dead... or confused. It just happens randomly for no good reason... I scanned my computer for spyware, adware, virii etc etc.. So that can't be the problem... Could my Cat5 cables be the problem? I've switched cables and still get the same problem.. albeit... They are pretty old cables... Also, whenever I join a server.. my ping is normally around 200, then it takes about 30 seconds for it to drop back in the normal 30-70 range. I normally run CS:S with trillian running, so I exited that and played... and still got the same problem... Any suggestions?

When it freezes, hit tab to bring up the scoreboard. Take a look at your ping. I've found that I usually start to lag slightly around 100.

also dont max out the graphics settings. Most of the eye candy is still around at teh medium settings.

Check your lag.... if it was just once I'd suggest it was someone else's computer, but if it's a regular occurrence it's you

Is this a constant problem with only CS:S or other games? I've found that one of my applications was sucking resources out of my system that caused a periodic processor lag that caused the graphics to skip every so often. Check your sys resources and your memory usage and also be sure to close out all apps not needed.

check your firewall if you have one. most of the time when you can still get on the net, but that happens to your game, its the firewall blocking it.
