Thinking of getting a new shooter for PC
well here's the situation. I just recently bought Full Spectrum Warrior and Doom3 from EB Games but i don't really like Full Spectrum Warrior all that much and the guys there said i could change it in within 2 weeks if i didn't like it. I'm thinking of either getting joint ops or Battlefield 1942 because they are both around the 20 dollar price range. which one should I get? are there any expansion packs i should get for either one?

BF1942!!! I never liked Joint Ops.
There are tons of free mods for BF. The most popular being DC Final. I still think DC is the greatest online game. It's the only game the really ever held my interest (and still does). Helos, planes, tanks, humvees, scuds, AA, you name it. There is also a Vietnam mod (EoD), and a Star Wars mod that was fairly popular. Anway you'll love DC, it's better than BF itself. |

I wouldn't. I bought Road to Rome a while back, and it's just a few more maps. Not worth buying really. I don't know how Secret Weapons of WWII is though.
The maps in vanilla BF are great, and DC has some of it's own maps. I'm telling you man, if you ever play DC you won't want to go back to the old WWII style BF. |

Secret Weapons of WWII is awesome. It's got around 7 new maps, and new vehicles like flying wings, rack-launched jets, autogyros, and tons of new tanks.

BF 1942 has a few add ons for it. If you want some modern warfare, get the Desert Combat mod, it's a free download. And if you can wait till june, Battlefield 2 is coming out.

Farcry is a great online shooter, If your running a fairly decent card ... The eye candy is superb.
Plus its probally around the 20 dollar mark. The drawback? ... Online aspect is dying slightly! Theres still plenty of servers though etc. Just get it and play it. The prettiest game ive ever seen. BF2 ... This is gonna last me year |

BF1942. The mods that come with this game are bad ass (Desert Combat Final).

I love Joint Ops. I think it's a great game. I haven't played BF:1942 other than the demo which wasn't impressive at all.

These shooters come and go so fast how can anyone keep up? I play RTS and buy 2-3 games a year... I know 2004 was a good year for FPS but 6+ must have games? This is crazy...

Battlefield 1942 came out in 2002. Battlefield: Vietnam was a joke. Halo 2 was alright. I wouldn't call Doom3 a must have game, I just bought it cuz it was fun. UT2004 sorta died in my eyes. I can't wait for Battlefield 2 though. In terms of RTS, I think the genre is heading more towards MMORPGs so RTS games are getting left behind. Rome Total War was good though. The problem with RTS games is that the following behind them are much less then FPS games because they are harder to jump in and play right away and are slightly harder to learn. RTS games have much longer lifespans though. WC3, for example, is still vigorously played today.

Aye Warcraft 3 is alive and well and I play it...I just wish they would come out with more RTS games... Not allot more but maybe 1 or 2 more quality games a year... I agree that allot of RTS players may be playing RPG's and I do also...Problem with a good RPG is the Pay Per Month factor... I'm not broke but when I start paying for a game monthly I loose intrest...Fun is allot harder to come by for me if I'm paying for it...Fun should be free or at least a 1 time cost... I'm just crying because I want more RTS and am jealous of the quality FPS I see. I can't play FPS for beans... My brain freeks out and I just start spazing..not good for the team frag limit.

yeah, choppers take a bit to learn. You just have to get used to what certain moves will do in the chopper and remember not to get fixated on a target when your blasting it or by the time u kill it, you be heading into the dirt, lol. Oh and the Hind, apache and the little birds (smaller helos) all fly differently, so test them out in single player mode to get good.

If you still want a good WWII aspect for BF try out Forgotten Hope. It had so many tanks and planes to chose from its crazy. It plays alot slower than DC though, but is still loads of fun. Be warned that it is over a gig download.
If anybody wants to share their BF SN tell me so I know if I see you or not. Mine is just Redline. |

Forgotten Hope is a very good mod. The sound is amazing and the game is modified so that damage is increased from tank shots, etc. It's a very nice addition to Battlefield 1942.

I just finished playing NOLF2 and there is just one word to describe it: outstanding.
You have everything in that game. It's not so short as to leave you disappointingly begging for more, yet it's not to long as to make you think twice before playing it a couple of times more. The game runs flawlessly. It's immersive both in gameplay and storyline. And the humour is just hilarious, let alone the characters. Oh, and let us not forget how hot Cate Archer is. So, if you haven't played it yet go for it right now, you can still get it at Amazon for about 10 bucks.
