Does anyone know a good cheap video card from bestbuy.com or anywhere that would be good for Counter Strike 1.6

9800Pro is LARGELY enough to run CS1.6 (its even way overkill if that's the only game you intend to play-)

a 9800pro would be way to much overkill for that game. On board graphics isnt going to get you the max 100fps, so get something like a radeon 9500.

CS1.6 is only a DX8 capable game. You don't really need anything that powerful. You could probably run it on a radeon 8500 or a GF4 Ti-series card with no problems. The Ti-series probably would be overkill, though. They're fairly powerful for what they are.

I wouldn't buy any parts from bestbuy.com, or any other "brick and mortar" retailer. They mark up their parts. Get your parts from other online retailers, such as newegg.com, zipzoofly.com, and directron.com. Note that if you're outside the US, some of them won't ship. There are other places you can get parts from if you're located in the UK or Canada.

I play all the original half life games on my old P1 233 mhz with a vid card from 97 or so and it works it doesn't look great but if you have any newish video card escecially one with TNL it will look much better and have good frame rates like when i play it on my parents comp with the radeon 9700

force flow had a good choice, with the ti series gforces. My brother played cs 1.6 with that and it worked just fine with 80-100 fps all the time. But if i were you i would get a nice card so you could play source, cause once you go source youll nvr go back, lol. Source is just so much better.

I agree with other posts- don't buy a card from Best Buy (unless there is a substantial rebate). For instance the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (128 mg) is $250 at Bestbuy but Newegg has it for $158 (OEM). Likewise a Nvidia 6600 Gt is also $250 at Bestbuy but Newegg has it for $184 (this is the card I have and its great- overclocks nicely).
