Games to keep an eye out for

Alright, this might be a long question, but here goes.

What I enjoy doing is going to eb games and rummaging through the used game section to see what people have turned in and what's on the shelf. It's the only store I know (we have a new Gamestop but I haven't been in it yet) which buys and sells used games. Nothing's wrong with them, usually they've been sitting on someone's desk too long and they need a little cash -- or they just didnt like the game. (I snagged Tropico 2 for $10 once) I can usually find some good deals on newish items, and also incredible deals on some of the older games that dont meet today's standards (hey, I'm a poor college kid )

So my question is, do you guys know of any good games that you might suggest keeping an eye out for during my random visits to the store? I haven't been there for awhile, but I'm going to go soon and I'd like a list to be looking out for. I like almost anything, but usually sims or first person shooters perhaps. Just mainly something fun I guess.

Thanks,

Tommy

Alright thanks guys. I have Homeworld and I really enjoyed it -- does anyone know if Homeworld 2 is worth getting?

Homeworld 2 got great reviews but I haven't played it.
Cataclysm, the continuation of the original Homeworld, is also great and I have it.
The reason why I stopped playing was that it became clear that I wasn't any good at RTS games.
But consider this, those games were so good that someone with no talent for them still kept trying.
In fact, if RTS games really are your thing, try to find a copy of Myth - The Total Codex, any RTS fan who missed it should be in heaven.

Maybe you need more practice at RTS games pam... in fact, I suggest you go and play for a few hours immediately

YES CHASER!!

Don't look any further for a good war real time strategy:
Warcraft III

&

Starcraft Broodwar (Expansion to Starcraft)

Also, a good first person shooter that is legally free for download all over the web:

Get the patch too.

Availible from the Army!!

Alright, thanks so far. I try and play battlefield 1942 daily (personal goal) and the next $50 + game I plan on buying is Battlefield 2.

I've thought about Warcraft III, but I've never really been into the Warcraft series too much -- you guys think it's worth it?

Do you think any of the mmorpgs are worth paying ten bucks a month for? If so which ones and why?

Thanks again.

WC3 is miles above the previous Warcraft games, and remember Warcraft, Starcraft/Broodwars and Diablo I/II can all be played on-line at Blizzards Battle net for free.
I once found the Broodwars expansion disk at Office Depot for $0.10.

No, it's not worth paying a monthly fee no matter how awesome the MMORPG. But then again, if you have the money burning in your pocket you may want to try it.

My advice is to go and buy Neverwinter Nights Platinum Edition which comes with the original NWN game and its two expansions. The single player experience is terrific and the game was designed to be played online for hours on end. You can easily add new mods and dungeons and duke it out online for FREE! Try it and see if you like it. If you do, then you may be a candidate for a pay-for-play MMORPG.

I've never liked Blizzard games, so I don't care for WCIII or any of the previous ones. Played both Diablos and their gameplay gets auld real quickly; they are not real RPGs by the way.

Pam mentioned System Shock, and I strongly suggest the sequel System Shock 2. If you can still get it, don't hesitate to grab it! It's a blast and a real scary game, not like the flop that was Doom 3.

I like Blizzard games, I think they have a touch of class generally.
Diablo was rubbish, I felt it was too difficult to operate, Sacred is the best I've seen so far.

And no, I will never play a game I have to pay a monthly rate to play online for

A different opinion- I pay a monthly rate to play WoW- however, I think this is a bargain compared to paying $50 for a game (Doom III, etc.) that takes about 10 hours to play and then has little replay value. For WoW, the cost per hour of playtime for me is much less than buying overpriced games with no replay value. Having said that, I agree that playing free online games such as CoD and HLII are the best bargains of all.

As far as bargain bin- I've seen Need for Speed games at EB- these are pretty good- especially Porsche Unleashed/.
