How do I get CS and DOD?

Hi All,

Hopefully this is a simple question...

Can anybody tell me how I get Counter Strike 1.6 and Day of Defeat? Do I literally just need to buy a retail version of the original Half-Life and find them on the internet, or do I also need to buy the retail version of Counter-Strike.

I have Steam with Half-Life 2 and CS:S but I can't find anyway of getting CS or DOD through it.

I like CS: S but my comp sometimes struggles and so many people say 1.6 is better, so I want to try it. I also want to try DOD as I'm a huge COD fan and want to see how it measures up (if people are still playing it online?).

Anyway, anyone got any ideas on the easiest/cheapest way to get these games (legitimately of course!)?

Unless you bought the Silver or gold pack of HL2 you need to get the the retail version of Half-life, then you can play 1.6

Got retail Half-Life for £5 and have been able to download about 6 new games from Steam! Got 1.6 and Dod but also Opposing Forces (good but not many on servers) and am downloading Team Fortress today...

However I have now experienced some severe lag problems on all of my internet games (not just Steam). Still that's another thread...

Though a little late, I thought there was a way to buy individual games through Steam. You could have bought HL1, CS1.6, and the original DOD through them I thought.

With the bronze package, you can get cs1.6 and DoD (not source).

You also have the option of individually purchasing each game.
