none of my games seem to work!
Man this is an on going problem. Halo, farcry, doom 3, the sims, etc. do not work for my pc! What is going on here? I updated all the patches to the current ones, installed/uninstalled sp2, and they don't ever load despite the first time. for example in halo I would install play for a little while turn off the comp. and when I go back to play it doesn't load at all anymore. Can someone offer some advice?

What do you mean? I have 2 computers that share the same operating system.(windows xp) and I try the games on both pcs and the same thing happens. I've done game installs as soon as I start fresh with my hd.

did u try launching the games without sp2 ?
this problem MIGHT be caused by the new "Data Execution Prevention" anti-virus feature in XP Service Pack 2 . Control Panel > System > Advanced > "Performance" Settings > Data Execution Prevention > "Turn on DEP for all programs and services EXCEPT those I select" You then use the ADD feature to add software such as Call of Duty Multiplayer" to the list (usually located in C:\Program Files\(name of the game) Try and see if it works. Good Luck. ( i recommend cs 1.6 tho )

u might also wanna check your eventwiever which is located under administrative tools to see if there is an error log . That might help a whole a lot : )

nope didn't work as for the event viewer there are alot of error logs, but none really indicate much. it says:
The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: 6. |

Maybe uninstalling SP2 messed up some files, but you said you are doing this from a fresh install, correct?
You reformatted and installed latest video drivers and chipset drivers then try and play the game and it still doesn't work?

hmmm if you still didn't decide to install a fresh copy of your OS or buy a new computer try repairing your current OS with the system disk. Since you have lots of error messages this would be a right thing to do.

and they don't work in either computer. Hmm- you've listed several games so I am assuming you didn't buy them all at once and at some point the games worked? And you did something to both computers and now games will not work on both- do other programs work?- or have you never played games on these computers? did you check for viruses using the Trend Micro site? Because it happens on two computers, you can probably rule out a hardware problem. Do both computers use the same drivers?- if not , the differences can help you rule out driver problems.
Maybe list the hardware of your system? |

What difference does it make whether or not the games are pirated?
Have these games ever worked before? And are you having any problems with your video card?

these are real copies I don't condone pirating. The 2 computers use the same exact drivers except one was store bought and the other I just finished build last week. I have the geforce fx 5200 in both.
