Counter Strike 1.6 machine

I have an old Dell 4300 with 1.7 gig P4, 256 PC133 RAM and a AGPx4 slot. What is the cheapest video card I can get that will run CS1.6 with decent framerates?
I was looking at a GeForce 2 MX400. Would that work? I will be doing no other gaming on this system other than CS1.6. Thanks

I used to play counterstrike 1.6 and before on an Intel Celron 400mhz microatx board with 256mb ram and a PCI version of the Geforce2 MX400 64MB with Windows 98SE, and it ran fine. Now that I look back on it however, I can't believe I tolerated that kind of machine. The PCI version worked fine for my gaming needs at the time.

I ran CS 1.6 on a Toshiba laptop with Intel Ext. Graphics - though the ping was always extremely high, it worked fine.

I play Source on a 1.7 with a bit more ram (760mb or something) and it's actually okay apart from servers with +20 players (and I only have a Rad 9600). So if Source takes your fancy I'd say you might be able to play it on your PC (note: might)

I personally prefer Source but then I hadn't played any CS until five months ago. Tried 1.6 after Source and just can't get into it...

Here's a good place to start - http://forum.pcmech.com/rules.php - the rules to this forum.
Quote:
9. Zero Tolerance on Piracy
NO WAREZ. NO SERIALS. NO CRACKS / CRACKING / ILLEGAL PROGRAMS. Anything that can be used in software piracy or other illegal software activities will result in a ban. Same goes for abusive programs like mailbombers, forum and usenet flooders and email harvesting bots. This also includes unreleased products. Workarounds which comprimise security, bypass password protection, or otherwise go to gain unauthorized access to private data or information is prohibitied. Links provided to locations that offer tutorials or tips for any of these activities are also forbidden.
