I am building a new comp and I'm wondering what my expectations should be for playing games such as CounterStrike Source/Doom 3 and so on.
My system will be: Link to My Saved Wish List Don't be too hard on me please. This is my first build and I really am not sure what I'm doing. |

I have a friend that has an sli config and you have to do some setting up with it, but he says its nice. If you use the load balancing the screen in CSS will look funky. To turn it off, go into your display properties and there should be an advanced button in the SLI section.

you should invest in 1 6800GT rather then 2 6600GTs. 1 6800GT beats or matches 2 6600GTs in SLi in almost every benchmark.

Also, get a different power supply. Aspire PSU's are crap. Go with a Thermaltake 480w. I have never heard of "Ultra" RAM either. I'd go with Corsair, Kingston, or Mushkin. You don't need the CD burner along with the DVD burner. The DVD burner will also burn CD's. I don't know about Roswill quality anyway. Get an Asus DVD-ROM drive.

I think you ought to post this in the hardware section as well if you haven't done so already. This sounds more like a computer build question than a gaming one. If you put it there then you will definately get some feedback. (You might already have it there, I haven't checked, so if you have then ignore this post).
Good luck.

You might want to consider getting another hdd as well if you are going to be using it as a gaming rig (which you should, its so powerful!). Although that 10,000rpm drive will be really fast at boot etc, you may need more space. I've got 160GB and I'm starting to run low. Maybe a 250 gig standard IDE drive?

They also said 'it can be combined with an identical card in SLI mode to unleash power comparable to an X850XT PE card. It gets our best buy' But I was thinking of also going the SLI route but now I've decided to stick to one 6800GT in my next build and then adding one later on when I need it and when more games are supported. |
