Curious Issue: WoW and Network cards

Why this is so, I have no idea. I have a new Gigabyte Mobo with onboard network card. When connected to WoW server I can see the world but not myself, the picture in the top left corner that should have my name says "unknown entity". I can see what people type for chat, and they can see what I type for chat- but I cannot see what I type. Called WoW tech support- they said it was the network card. So I disabled the onboard card and installed another network card- and all issues were immediately fixed.

Any techies know why this would occur with some network cards but not others? (The onboard network card worked fine for all other internet and LAN duties).

are you updated with the latest 1.4.2 patch? I got that once but that cause I was running an older patch , and if your in a big city like Stromwind , just walk out of the city in Elwynn forest and logoff and restart. sometimes the server doenst have time to catch up .

Everything is up to date- and I'm pretty sure it was the network card - this problem was ongoing and started occuring as soon I used the new network card on the Mobo- the WoW tech support seemed to be familiar with this problem and diagnosed it right away- put in the old card (the one I used with the previous Mobo)- and the problem was immediately resolved (no problems in either Ironforge or Undercity) The problem occurred for both alliance and horde characters and regardless of spawn site. I have also never had this problem when I play WoW on my laptop with a wireless card.

BTW-I tried to walk around and logoff and log back on- however, apparently, it only looked like I was walking around because when I log back in, I haven't moved as far as the server is concerned.

I was just wondering if anyone knew how brand of network card (when both are new and have up to date drivers) could make this difference.

Regardless- this game is really addictive and great fun.

You may want to read this, it doesn't sound like your issue but it's similar.
