Far Cry demo problematic?
Is the Far Cry demo messed up? I downloaded it and when I play (with everything turned up -- and everything turned down) the ground will turn black and the water effects won't render. Also the grass doesn't move at all (shouldn't it move in the wind?). This the level where you come up to the island on the little rubber motor raft.
I downloaded and installed the latest nvidia drivers and it's still the same. I was running on 71.34 and now I'm on 71.39 Thanks and hopefully I can get this to work. My specs are in my sig.

Far Cry demo idiotic?
The non-patched versions of the game, including the demo and even the retail v1.1 had many problems. Don't base the game on the demo. It gets better.

But why would they make the demo so horrible? Is it just my computer? I thought the 6800 GT would be able to make it look a bit better than it does. It looks like crap right now.

The demo is over a year old and came out before/around the time of the 6800gt. Far Cry is known for it's bugs, especially w/o patches.

Well I just thought of something. I know the game is designed for directx 9, and that's what creates the water effects and all the bells and whistles. Isnt that right? Could for some reason my card isn't utilizing directx 9 on this one game? I know it does work because I play Doom III and I just got done playing the HL2 demo this morning (today has been my day of demos).
Perhaps I am totally off on this one, but what do you guys think? |

I dont know about the demo but without the version 1.3 patch the full game had areas of black and some areas where it was extremely bright and looked terrible. But after patching everything was perfect. By the way if I was you I would buy farcry. I rarely buy games but I got it and loved it.

Yeah, that's what's happening to me too -- random parts of the shore will be pitch black -- I think it's in place of shadows, though it's just odd. Plus once my gun and arm turned a bright golden color for about two seconds. I know I'm not seeing what the game truely looks like because of this -- do you think the game patch would work for the demo? I'm downloading the research lab demo which I found on numerous sites except the official one. Perhaps somebody did this one and released it patched -- or at least in better condition than the original. I'm going to go in and take some screenshots then post them for y'all.

Dudes, I posted about this exact same thing a couple of months ago. When I played the Fort AMD Demo, all of my shadows looked like rainbows and sometimes if I drove the boat into a shaded area, it would turn completely one shade of bright yellow.

Lol, I'm not saying I don't believe you -- I'm trying to figure out if there's a fix for this piece of dookey demo they call Far Cry. That's all I'm trying to do.
Since we all know what we're talking about then I won't post any screenshots. That's sad that they released a demo that crappy. EDIT: I just installed and played through the research level and it runs much smoother than the official fort one. (it wasn't created by ubisoft) Alas, it is still not using any of the directx 9 features -- I'm disgusted. Last edited by tomster2300; 05-24-2005 at 06:58 AM. |
