Pc games
I was looking at games because I have a great gaming rig that I'm going to build and I was wondering if anyone heard anything bad about any of these games and also I want to know if any of these online games have a playing fee:
Bard's tale Guild wars Half life 2 Half life Simpson hit and run Theif Matrix online Swat 4 Age of Mythology call of duty Half life 2 expansion Star wars battlefront 2 Battlefront 1 Fable Also If any of these are expansions and I don't have the original on the list tell me please. One more thing does anyone know of any good flight simulators both the plain flying ones and the ones where you shoot at other planes. Last edited by Lamilia; 06-06-2005 at 05:47 PM. |

I think that the Matrix Online might be the only game with an online fee. Most games, unless they are exclusively online massive multiplayer games, have free multiplayer.
As far as I know, the Simpsons Hit and Run does NOT have any multiplayer aspect of any kind. I bought it a while ago, but it's relatively cheap and somewhat fun. I don't know about Bard's tale, or thief but I imagine that they should have free multiplayer if at all. As for Fable... I'm not sure if that's a single player only or multiplayer only or mixed game. I didn't even know that it's coming out for PC. I didn't know there was a HL2 expansion coming out either. If you head over to gamespot.com or the developer's site, you should get a pretty good picture of what the games offer in terms of single player vs. multiplayer gameplay. As for simulators... I can't really help you there.

What is the story for Half life I heard it's a good game. I want fable but I hate Xbox I think its a 1 player game. I know simpsons, theif and bard's tale don't have any multi player. I also want a game kind of like Socom 2 for ps2 and I think this is it I also heard those tom clancy games are good so I am going to check them out

If you are into multi player and FPS, certainly buy the HL2 package..you get Day of Defeat (soon as its released) Counter-strike source, and HL2 deathmatch, along with the HL2 single player.
Also if you are into FPS as I said before..I would suggest you try Call of Duty, some of my best gaming memories are tied in with that game Check out the COD demo here if you like. namakan |

I'd say try America's Army. It's a free online first person shooter similar to counter strike. You play very little single player. The single player levels are only training levels that allow you to take on certain functions in some maps such as sniper, medic, and special forces soldier. Anyways, it's a first person shooter but the game emphasizes teamwork to accomplish specific goals. For an absolutely free game, there is no risk in giving it a try. HOWEVER, it is free because it is funded of course by the US army. Being as such, all the "training" levels are chock-full of recruiting material. It seems as if the entire game is meant to persuade a player to enlist. What better way to get to the audience which is most likely to play first person shooter video games. It's ingenious! But yea, with FREE written on the pricetag, it's worth a gander.
This is of course my suggestion for multiplayer first person shooter. If you want single player, go for Far Cry or The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, or Star Wars Republic Commando. Counter Strike is also just about as popular you can get. Plus the HL2 package is a single player wonderland on its own. |

I just picked up swat 4, its pretty sweet. I havent tried the multiplayer yet though.
Ive played most of the other games too and all were good games, excellent choices. You should pick up Far Cry too if you dont already have it.

If you want a fps and experience some incredible graphics get Doom III. I know I've been ranting about it in my other thread, but I do believe it's worth playing if you just want to run and shoot.
Get HL2 and Call of Duty. I have COD and its expansion and they're both remarkable. It's the only game which my father has sat down and played (he became addicted to them and wouldn't quit playing until he beat them both -- plus he hates pc games). Pick up Call of Duty 2 when it comes out this Christmas. Get Battlefield 1942 -- it'll consume days of your life, but it's definately worth it, especially if you join a competitive clan. Using teamspeak for coordinated attacks is a gaming experience far beyond anything you'll find in any other game. This is all free online multiplayer of course. The game has a single player portion, but it's just the multiplayer version with simple AI. It's not worth buying if you don't have the capabilities to play online, it is pretty much a strictly online only game. In Battlefield you get gigantic maps which hold up to 64 people and you battle it out on foot, on land in vehicles, in the sea through ships and subs, and especially through the air. The original is WWII, but the most popular mod for it is desert combat. The mod is extremely polished, and most importantly introduces helicopters. With blackhawks you can transport people into hot spots while two people arm gatlon guns on either side of the chopper. If you use teamspeak and play with a bunch of buddies, then a helicopter can be a deadly asset in public play, though they prove fatal in competition. Get Battlefield 2 when it comes out this Christmas as well. They hired on the desert combat mod team to help design the sequel, since the sequel is now strictly urban combat. Its graphics engine has been described as being HL2 but with fifty times more action occurring on screen. Believe me, if it's anything like the original then you will not find a more hectic battlefield environment in any game on any platform. Here are some reviews for you Battlefield 1942 http://pc.ign.com/articles/371/371241p1.html Doom 3 http://pc.ign.com/articles/536/536387p1.html Half-Life 2 http://pc.ign.com/articles/566/566202p1.html Call of Duty http://pc.ign.com/articles/456/456776p1.html Call of Duty: United Offensive (expansion) http://pc.ign.com/articles/547/547879p1.html Far Cry http://pc.ign.com/articles/500/500550p1.html Hope these help you out and sorry for such a long post.
