So you can use 2 monitors at once. If you wanna surround yourself with monitors so you can see all directions at the same time, you could tear up first person shooters I suppose, but at what a cost...

I beginning to see more and more businesses use multiple monitors. It allows them to have all kinds of info on screen at once without flipping back and forth between apps. I've only seen one person use multi monitors for a game. It was for MS Flightsim. He and a small group of avaition enthusiasts were in the process of recreating a fully funtional 737 cockpit. It was about 40% done when I last saw it about a year ago and quite impressive.

Good question. I tried searching that out, but didn't find anything. I don't think it would be a 50/50 split though as a background pattern or texture that is the same on each monitor shouldn't need the same data stored in memory twice. I would almost think that the operation would be more dynamic. Just a personally made up theory, but I would think that if monitor A was displaying something more graphically intense, that it would naturally use more video RAM (more than 50% if required) than monitor B and vice versa if monitor B has a more graphically intense application running.

Actually, after posting that, I've been beating my head trying to remember the guy's name so I can phone him and check it out, it should be done by now.

i cant point you to any specific point of reference but i can tell you from my own experience(matrox g400 32mb dual head...great card btw) that you do not loose any performance when using the dual display....at least not any more than you normally would by multi-tasking.

The ATI Radeon dual head and the Matrox G450 (both DDR Ram) are selling on the 'net for around $120-$150.
For what it's worth, I use the Matrox G450 in my studio for audio/video editing and production. Expecially with video, it's great to ahve one monitor have my editing views and timelines and the other have my working files and other folders. -Craig |
