Can't get 800x600 Resolution since Det 10.80
Hi Folks,
Duron 600, Creative Riva TNT Ultra, Voodoo 2, DX8, Teco Plug & Play Monitor, Win98se. I couldn't get Shogun to start on my son's system. However http://erado.totalwar.org/ recommended updating the nvidia drivers to 10.80. Since loading these drivers, I can get into the options screen but the game will only run when I switch to the Voodoo2 card. More worryingly, in Display Properties, the option to run at 800x600 is no longer present. The slider starts at 640x480 and jumps to 1024x768 and higher. Anyone got any ideas or suggestions. I must admit to finding all these detonator driver releases confusing. Can anyone tell me what is the most stable version which is compatible with DX8. Any help or views welcome. How was the 10.80 installed?
Did you uninstall the previous drivers and switch to Standard VGA Display Adaptor before installing 10.80? |

Hi MadMax,
Yes I switched to standard PCI display as per the readme file then deleted the Nvidia drivers listed for the TNT ultra device manager from the Windows System folder. These files were NVDISP.DRV & NVMINI.VXD. Have I missed any in the System folder? I also deleted the existing nvidia info file in the windows info folder. However, I did not uninstall the Nvidia listing in Add/Remove programs as I thought you didn't have to remove the Nvidia Control panel to update the drivers. Mike |

It's possible that after installing the new drivers, Windows is no longer seeing a compatable refresh rate to work with your monitor at 800x600. Get the INF file from the manufacturer of your monitor, install it and see if that cures the problem.

Thanks Hal9000,
Your advice did the job. Got a suitable monitor driver from Windrivers.com and 800x600 appeared again. This is the first time I have actually used a manufacturers monitor driver. In the past, with the inexpensive monitors I've had, the windows plug and play driver worked just fine. Shogun is working on the Riva TNT Ultra now - much to my son's delight. All the best, Mike. |
