Halo 2 Cheaters!!!

Im sure there are several mechie's who are avid halo 2 live players, and im sure you have experienced some unusual gameplay lately, for example being Fragged by one bullet from the battle rifle when you have full health, or seeing a player fly across the screen when holding/using the energy sword. after seeing this you probably have muttered through your mic: THATS SUCH BULL****!!!!!!

It looks like bungie has either heard your prayers at night, listened in on your games, or have received a bunch of complaints, cause it appears as if they are getting ready to take action, to stop this type of gameplay. although the article doesnt state what they are gonna do specifically to stop this type of gameplay, it would assume they are just gonna ban gamertags who have used hacks to further there ranking level, and also patch the exploits so this type of gameplay ceases to exist, but it sounds like it will be short and sweet justice.................

ok for one. those arent hacks. yea u think so dont u? what it is is simple. taking the sword lunge (if u dont know what that is... go play halo 2) and using the rocket launcher to lock on to far away targets (rectile goes red is lock on) u split second melee and swtich weap to sword at the same time. thus creating a lunge across the map. those one bullet hits are actually usually common when a battle rifle is equiped secondary with a plasma pistol, an over charged shot then a swith to battle rifle. very fast and effective tho considered cheap. but the sword lunge across the map ARE NOT HACKS. its a glitch. and i think bungie is taking steps for hacks. there are a few hacks that are floating around, usually it involves mod chips. im not sure how it works but yeah they done that. one incident was when a person signs off the game in the middle of game the thing would pause and reconnect, sometimes during this time a hacker would get kills or captures. its rather strange to be winning then all the sudden be losing by a huge margin.

personally i think hackers are ruining game play but for those who find glitches, i got no problem, its just fun. (burial mounds, project huge weaps and MC and elite on the sky, a gltich but its awesome)

i knew about the flying sword trick and thats a good one, but doesnt the rocket launcher have to be empty in order to do the flying lunge? The plasma pistol with an overcharged shot is another good arsenol to have, but what im saying about the battle rifle is the opponent pulls the trigger one time, when i have full health and i have been killed with the first bullet. there was no plasma pistol overcharged shots on me or anything.

i kind of figured the hacks had something to do with the mod chips. but i heard that if someone mods there xbox that it is unable to be used when playing on xbox live? is that true or just another bogus myth?

i've also heard of people that have cable modems with a standby button can use the standby button to exploit a glitch. supposedly during gameplay a player would put his modem into standby causing everyone else to lag, then that person who is in standby could run all over the board and kill people. the people who got killed would not even see the the person who killed them on there radar or even on the screen for that matter. is this one a real glitch that has been exploited?

Yes it is a real glitch although i think they fixed it. My freind was one of those who killed everyone in about 20 seconds at start of the game. He does have a standby button that he presses on his Modem He pressed it and everyone would Lag sometimes even freeze up. But now they worked on that and they Patched it up.

well it really depends on how much the xbox is modded. i have a friend who modded his xbox so he can play classic snes games on it... that really doesnt do ne thing else on halo or anything, it lets him play emulators. but according to x live, a modded xbox can not connect to live due to a different data flow. tho there are hackers and modders who managed to play... but they got banned so yea. Mod chips create a different hmmm identity is the term. back in october when halo 2 was leaked in france alot of ppl went a modded their xboxes.... well now we know what happened to them... first they got caught cuz they create a unique signature... then they get fined for 500,000 dollars (no wonder microsoft has alot of money). so yeah its true that mod chips wont let u play live, it just depends on how far u went modding.

Nah, i moded my xbox and play halo 2 live, all you do is leave the mod chip in sleep mode. I put an 80gig hdd in and loaded halo 2 onto it so that its running off the hdd instead of a cd, makes it load alot quicker. Works great for madden too

Otherwise I think glitches are just part of the game, as long as you dont ruin everyones fun *cough socom cough*

Yesterday we got cheated on 3 times I have a group of close friends, and it seems as we level up more, we play more and more cheaters!
Action replay, modchip, whatever u wanna call it, its just cheating to me!

Come on, seriously, its a GAME. Its supposed to be FUN. Thats why i play with my friends. alot of people online are taking this game way to seriously to teh point of using extremely childish/offensive insults, and of course, cheating

i love it when kids tell me how bad they are when their modding lets them jump 300 ft in the air, and shoot fully-auto streaming battle rifle at me that gives them pretty much a one shot kill.

Worst of all, is standby. Nothing like winning a game, only to see the screen go blank, and come back dead with all my weapons gone. I've actually beaten a few people when they standby on us.

EDIT: standby isnt fixed. its still used (read the thread AFTER i posted lol)

I've seen all kinds of stuff. The most basic starts with "locking in" lower levels than you into a game (not really cheating, exactly). Alot of people also keep another of much lower level in their party to get matched up against lesser opponents. My friends and i are all around the same level, we dont do that. Next, standby. The real cheating has occured lately. Like i said before, people can superjump so high that u can barely see them, stream fully-auto battle rifle at you, etc.

EDIT: what's everyones highest level in halo? Right now im a level 27 in team slayer, 21 in double team, 19 in minor clanmatch, and thats pretty much all the gametypes i play.

i hear ya muskie88, i have played a lot of games at the higher levels, and know the feeling when people cheat. it sucks, it ruins the game. i hope bungie can patch or fix these glitches soon, but just like any other piece of software that is patched up, they will just find more glitches in the game.

Hack: The one cheap one that i really know of is either having a 'locked' modded box or using the Splinter Cell exploit with a memory pack to softmod your box, then you ftp in and get the downloaded content from halo2 and edit using a hex editor. Its easy to modify weapons, accuracy, whatever.

glitches like standbying and bluescreening are really cheap, and i think people who do that b.s. should be banned. But jump glitches (odd places where several textures or shapes come together and can rocket you into the air) are just part of the game. props if you take the time to learn where to perfectly jump then get the sweet sniper spots on the top of the map.

damn that sounds like a lot of work just to play a video game. but i guess its human nature to test the limits of everything, cars, pcs, there bodies, whatever the case maybe, but yeah people who are hacking the maps and weapons should be banned from the game. besides whats the point, they should know they r gonna win, the odds are all in your favor.

yep... u know some ppl spend way too much time in video games, i think they should go outside, i like video games, heck i can play 12hrs straight in a good chair and screen but i like outside too. whats awesome about halo2 is the banshee, how u can board it... we put on a show in a middle of a team slayer of me and my friend (who was on the oppoiste team) and we boarded each other in mid air, takes practice but i got evryone to watch. not really hack... but it looks strange.

Exactly, bungie doesnt consider glitching to be cheating! More power to ya if u find some nice sniper spots and put a bullet thru my head. My friend found a totally awesome one in halo 1. U line up a warthog next to one of the rocks on blood gulch, so that the gun on the hog faces away from the rock, then get in the turret, line it up again, get out, and u end up INSIDE the rock. You can shoot out but they cant shoot in (except grenades/rockets) it was so great, i even got a few assassinations when people walked past my rock!

old nickname i had in college. thats another thing that chaps my a**, that i cant change my gamertag info at least once. i was told the only way to change it was to purchase a new xbox live kit, i was like *** that is retarded. this was from xbox live tech support mind you, and then it hit me, its a microsoft thing to make you keep purchasing there products over and over again instead of adding that little feature in the first time to help the consumer save some money but still enjoy there products. damn M$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if anyone knows a way of changing there gamertag info without having to buy a whole new live kit then please let me know ASAP...........

In many places, exploiting glitches is lumped with hacking and gets you the same punishment. What you mention is commonly known as wall hacking and will you get you a nice kick in most servers. Not sure how strict Halo 2 clans are, but all the old Battlefield ones, including my own, would immediately report you to punkbuster (they would in turn blacklist you). Blacklisting would have you automatically kicked on log in from any server running Punkbuster for a limited amount of time. I would watch my step if I were you unless you were sure nobody with server admin finds it offensive.

Halo 1 was not meant to be played online, though you could using gamespy arcade and xbox tunnel, which basically acts as a system link game that goes thru the net. also i have read bungies policy and glitches are not considered cheating, they give the example of pulling a flag through a wall in CTF.

Sorry, I misread that, I thought you were referring to Halo 2. It's odd that they would consider that not cheating though. I suppose since pc online gaming has been around so long, plus there's so many more ways to cheat more rules have to be made. I guess patience is thin and any and all things which aren't "supposed" to be done are thought inappropriate.

I have banned many people for wall hacking though, and its been the policy with all the clans I've been associated with.

Halo 2 has some very stupid glitches. I love halo 1 and all the fun glitches it has. Halo 2's glitches seemed to be made exactely for that reason. You don't call it a glitch, you call it part of the game.

Like this cool plasma pistol hack that makes boxes appear everytime you fire!
And also some people want to play Halo2 in a new way sometimes.
Everyone here would like to do those super high jumps or shoot with the shotgun and fly up into the air.(Saw a video of it at youtube.com, but forgot what it was called)

But if you use these hacks to only win, then you are a very sad person.

In my opinion Glitching is just as bad as cheating. Your still creating an advantage over another player using something that is not intended to be there.
