Game Problems.. question if the video card could be problem

Hey everyone: I just build a new computer (spec are detailed in my sig as rig 2) but, anyway I have been having game problems. I have a Radeon 9600 Pro 256mb in my new comp and when I try to play Halo the computer says gathering exception data then crashes back to desktop. The most recent problem I am having as well is with Need for Speed Underground. Once I installed the new Catalyst drivers I was able to get Need for Speed open but after about 5-10 minutes of playing the sound and game just crashes back to desktop and or crashes the entire computer. When it crashes the entire computer it goes to a blue screen says that windows encountered a major problem and needs to shut down. After that the computer restarts. It seems that the problem went away when I put my 9600xt in but, I am not sure of that as I didn't play with it all day.

If the only thing you changed was your vid card and the other card you replaced is newly bought, then that new 9600 card might be defective.

Did you uninstall the drivers, put the card in, and reinstall new drivers? Even though they can use the same drivers, it could cause a problem.

edit: I reread your post, from what I understand you had problems before any cards were swapped so you may ignore what I wrote above. Have you run a virus check?
