Why is my ping so high?

Lately I have noticed that my ping in games is around 180 at all times. It used to be around 10 to 30. I am getting kicked from servers all the time now. I have run speed tests at DSLReports.com and I'm still getting 6 to 7 Mb/s down and 2Mb/s up. Why is my ping so high? It's a cable connection.

hate those even though i dont often get that problem.

Read your game's manual and find the ports you need to open. THen go into your router and forward them. THis is very easy to do and can be disabled/enabled on the fly for security.

That might help, and also turn off or open up those pesky firewalls.

Edit: Also make sure the game's ping is low or medium. If its one of those games lobbys, make sure your on your cost aka east coast lobby, west coast lobby, etc

Edit Again: also dont forget to get rid of your windows xp firewall.

Right cl1ck my network places>>Properties>>TCP/IP properties>>Properties>>Advanced/firewall/Uncheck Protect my Computer with XP firewall blah blah blah....

I don't have a router at the moment (broken) and I'm not running a software firewall. The Windows one has always been enabled and has never had a problem.
