used teamspeak... was pretty happy with it, no i dont think u use a button but u can program it to, or when u speak up it activates... so i enjoyed team speak, kinda like msn... alot simpler and u can have more then one person to talk to. good for clan tactics

I have used both, and another called Gamecom. I really like Teamspeak the best, you can either set it for "push to talk" and that is where you have to push a button to talk, or you can set it for voice activation, and this only requires you to speak. However the only downside to it is the is a delay from when you speak or others speak to when the other people listening actually here it. Ventrillo is basicly the same only people say the voices are a lot clearer, and it sounds better, but I personally like Teamspeak better. Gamecom is another program like Teasmpeak or Ventrillo, but I have only used it a couple of times and didnt care for it. I would say go with either Teamspeak or Ventrillo, its basicly up to you.
You can also visit http://www.goteamspeak.com/downloads.php and download a free server to test it out, and see how you like it.

I've only used TS and loved it. Very useful in Raven Shield.

Teamspeak is great. You can use "Push to Talk" where you push (and hold) a button and it transmits until you release that button (although some keys make the computer beep), or "Voice activation" which you can adjust so that it activates when you talk (and not when you breath - people will thank you for that).
It's really useful in all games. In strategy games it's great to talk about tactics (without the faux pas of pressing the wrong key and giving it all away), and in shooters it's fantastic when you have just have no time to type. Sorry if I sound like a salesman there. |

Our gaming clan/team/group uses ventrilo and are happy with it. We also rent a server, but pay 15.00/month and we usually have anywhere from 6 to 30 people on the server in various channels every day due to the different games we play. We also have the channels split up between public and private (team only) channels for the all the games we play.

Well I use "skype" it is a IM based program that allows you to talk for free. The only requirement is that you have a headset. Granted there are additional services you can pay for, they aren't necessary.
Only downside is you can have up to 4 people at most on a conference call...but I only play with 1 or 2 friends online at a time. Here's the site |
