The ONLY good fighter sim games I've played are the Xwing and Tie Fighter Star Wars games.

Stay away from Jetfighter 5, it looks good, but sucks the big one.

Sadly, it has died off - and its my favorite. Maybe check out Battlefield 2 and try your luck with the fighters on there - I love it, but its also other stuff, not primarily fighter sim.

Lock-On: Modern Air Combat was recommended in another thread. I don't know of many others.

The Star Wars games aren't really fighter sims as such, more flying games. They're a lot of fun though, I really enjoyed them on the Gamecube. Search the forums, this question comes up periodically more than any other game genre

I think many people have become bored with flying games. I know I have. You can only do so much.

As much as I love flight sims, I agree. They will always be in a niche market. You have to be a plane or helo or whatever freak to love them. I do stop playing them for months at a time, but always come back to them with renewed affection (been doing this since the 80's). Also, as far as the genre dying off, (WARNING: BROAD GENERALIZATION) sim fans are very techie, and only techie people had computers 20 years ago when flight sims were a bigger chunk of all games sold. As computers became more mainstream, so did the games, IMO (not that this is a bad thing). If you're not really into sims (or into planes), you'll likely never play more than a couple. But don't let that keep you from giving one a try.

I agree with you, but for that very reason, companies could probably get off with charging more than $50 for a good sim, and could make a nice bit of profit in the process. Mainstream games are becoming more alike in every way, including quality, popularity, price, etc etc... I might (and I know some people who definitely would) pay upwards of $100 for a really good, accurate, contemporary combat simulator.

Here's one for $125, apparently they are working on a civiliann version, but you can buy this one. If it had a dynamic campaign I'l probably get it. Won't find this in the bargain bin at EB!
