Installing COD
Hi All,
Need some advice for installing Call of Duty on my new comp. Basically, as soon as it gets to the 'insert disc 2' dialogue when installing I put in the disc and it just won't recognise it. Tried ejecting, cleaning etc and then just tested it to see if the disc was being recognised normally (not during instal) and it works fine (I can see it on My Computer and the title screen pops up when it auto runs). I first tried to instal on my new comp with just onboard graphics but since then have dropped in a new card - maybe it will work when it recognises a decent card (I'll try 2nite)? However at this stage of trying to install it I doubt it is checking to see if you're gfx are up to it so this is probably nothing to do with it. So, I know the disc works (well, is at least recognised) but not for installation, oh and it isn't a dodgy copy. It was fine to instal on my old machine and always played okay. Also, the computer is clean as a whistle as it's brand spanking and using up-to-date AVG and MS antispyware. Any suggestions much appreciated - I only want to play UO online but can't without getting COD installed first! |

if you have 2 cd roms in your computer try using the 2nd one on that cd and see if it will install.

Cheers for the reply...
I only have one drive but it's kinda sorted now anyway. Activision support said I had to do a manual install by dropping the Main folders from each disc into a COD folder on my hard drive. It worked but my menus don't seem to look right ie it looks like there's still some developers text in there (multiplayer menu comes out like mp_multiplayer or some such) - it wasn't like this on my old install! Anyway, cos of the manual install UO wouldn't install and the only way to get around it was to create a key for COD in the registry so I had a 'valid' COD installation (it seems manual install doesn't do this). So I had to fiddle with the reg, which I hate doing especially on a brand new comp. Anyway, UO installed but sound seems a bit odd and the odd text in menus persists too. I need to patch yet so maybe it will end up running without any hitches. As long as I don't have to go back in the reg I can live with it. If only I could have installed COD normally though! |
