Weird-looking shadows

I've noticed that the shadows in the games I play (mainly BF2 and FarCry) I get shadows that look like the one in the screenshot I've attached. This can't be normal? The picture doesn't do it justice though; in motion the shadow looks a lot worse because the jagged edges move around a lot. Any ideas on what it might be?

I don't have FarCry, but BF2 does the exact same thing with me. Even if you turn the detail all the way up, the shadows are pretty bad. I think this is just a flaw with the game -- I don't think there's anything wrong with your setup. I find this odd, since even games with crappy graphics usually get the shadows right. I wonder what happened.

It's also in Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow. Well it can't be an NVidia issue then because I see you have an ATI card. I'm going to try going back to the drivers that came with the graphics card to see if that makes a difference, and then the drivers that came with the game. I somehow don't think it's a game issue, because I see it happening in more than one game. I showed the shadows to a friend of mine who apparently can run the game at max everything without anti-aliasing and he says he doesn't get these kinds of shadows, but he's also rather boastful so maybe he does, maybe he doesn't. He's on an NVidia card.

I don't have that game either so I can't verify. I wonder if it's caused by some special hardware feature not being enabled, like some shader. I have a previous generation card so I'm not surprised when some odd things happen. But shadows can't be that graphic-intensive compared to other parts of the game, so I tend to think it's not hardware related.

well soemthing like this happens often on teh ATI graphic cards, i used my friends comp which has a 9800 XT Pro... very nice, any how the shadows were being weird and stuff (liek that screen shot) and on my home comp (my sig... not that great but oh well lol) it doesnt do that even if i have not even supported graphic card. updating the driver fixed the issue on my friends comp... i dunno maybe it may work for you guys... just hope you get lucky.
