I have a router, but i dont think thats the problem because i have other pc's on the router. i connect my cat5 to a hub witch is connected to my router |

Are you using a virus protection on a very strict mode that is blocking your acess from opening and downloading the updates, I had to manually allow connections to a few sites to get updates or Unreal2K4.

The Windows Firewall may be on, even if you can't tell. Go to control panel, Windows Firewall, and make sure it's OFF.
Try plugging the computer directly into your cable modem (or whatever you have, just remove the router.) Then see if anything changes.

Are you able to surf the internet? Have you tried resetting everything? Unplug the cable modem, router, and turn of the computer for a few minutes. Then plug the cable modem back in, then the router, and then turn the computer back on.
