DirectX and sound in games
Hi,
Something strange happened to my PC some time ago. From one day to another, all sound in all my computer games suddenly disappeared. First, about my hardware: Soundcard is M-Audio FireWire 410. It is set to be the standard sound device, and the onboard soundcard has been deactivated. Now, there are no problems with the drivers or soundcard in Windows MediaPlayer, PowerDVD or the music software I'm using, so my guess is that the problem is perhaps related to a DirectX issue: When entering the DirectX setup and testing the sound (checking that the drivers selected are the M-Audio FireWire410 drivers), I can't hear anything at all. And yes, the volume is turned all the way up, the amplifier is on, and the speakers connected. I'd really appreciate any input that can help me solving this problem! It's been bugging me for quite a while now, but I haven't been able to find any solution yet. Cheers, Chris |

No, the computer is not connected to the internet - I try to keep it as clean as possible since I'm using it for work as well. But I will sure try it - the worst thing that could possibly happen would be ... nothing.

well get on an another comp, go to the main microsoft site and dl direct X 9.0c... the one where its not some small installer,
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en thats the link where u dl it... then just burn it onto a disk. most new games should have it anyhow so... yea go explore it. also make sure system restore is on and you save a restore point... just in case. then if something goes wrong you can restore it.

Thanks for the link. Reinstalling DirectX didn't help - however, a reinstallation of the FireWire410 did. It works now, hooray! Apparently another one of those issues where the computer decided to go its own way and a reinstallation is the only way out...
