Who here plays WOW, (World of WarCraft)

I am going to try it out, been wanting to try this game for ages, and now I have a 14 day trial for the price of a gaming mag. I am currently installing it and wondering who I might meet up with. I would post my screen name but not sure if I will get what I want yet.

Any short starter tips, that might keep me from getting discouraged?

Is there a main server that PCmech people try to get on?

Any servers I should avoid?

A friend at my last job told me that if I play I should get on a PVP server, never played any games on PVP.

This is interesting. downloading the 190meg patch, it seems Blizzard uses a system like bit torrents, while I am downloading, I am also uploading to others. I find this very odd for a big company liek blizzard, but I do see benefits, cutting their bandwidth costs and stuff..

edit
yup, it is torrent, even the ports, 6881-6999

Edit,

I am starting my trial on Dark Iron, PVP server, it appears to be a new server.

Ok, I have a question, I am currently playing on what I beleive to be one of the young servers, Dark Iron. For Population it lists as New.

Anyways, Log in time, it like 10 minutes, sometimes 15.. Waiting on my position in Queue. Currently 239 at 9minutes.

Is it like that on all servers? So Far this is the thing that is bothering me the most. currently a lvl 5 Paladin.

No the login times aren't normally like that, it's usually instant. If it's a problem with the server, they should fix it soon. They patch the game every Tuesday morning.

If you want to check the server/population status check http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/realmstatus

ok, going by the link you gave me, Dark Iron has a high population. I was hoping to be on a younger server. there is no way to change realms is there?

Can't do anything at the moment. All servers so up, but the log in server is down.

I am stuck at authenticating. I went to the site, servers up. then I tried to post and got a message log in server down.

noooo join kalecgos!!! don't go to dark iron!!! There were a batch of new servers that came out recently: Ursin, Kalecgos, Moon(something i forgot) and Dark Iron is the newest one. Dark Iron came out like a week after kalecgos. The thing right now with the economy is that on a new server, low level blues are cheaper because there aren't that many gold farmers so that low lvls can't easily have access to large amounts of gold likewise, there aren't that many high levels to transfer gold to their newer characters. However, crafting materials on newer servers are more "expensive" in the sense that not everybody has money. If you ever do decide to stop by kalecgos, send me a tell if i'm on. My character's name is Jinuya.

PvP servers are definately more fun then PvE servers because you don't have to flag yourself for PvP. Whenever there is opposing faction, be prepared for a fight

They give these trials so you get addicted to it lol. I think blizzard did exactly what they've done in every other game they've made. They made it so horribly addicting.

I am doing well, 13 paladin, plan to be 14 tonight easy.

I have decent equipment.

About changing realms, I can not take my lvl 13 or 14 paladin and jump to another realm can I ?

Also problem I notice on Dark Iron, and I took it because it was listed as NEW, it is FULL. When I go to log on, there was a queue tonight about 350, I am talking 15 minutes.

As I type this, 110 queue at 7 minutes estimated

heh... you rolled a pally..... be prepared for LOTS of aggravation later on at not being able to kill things You cannot open a transfer unless blizzard opens character transfers. Equipment doesn't start to matter too much until you get around 40. Dark Iron was the last PvP server to open recently I think so everybody hopped aboard it.

the most wanted characters in the game are Priests for healing , Warriors to tank and warlocks to cast soulstones (ressurects dead priests that can revive your party after a wipe) and summon party members to your location.

when in Ironforge looking for a group the 2 mentionned the most are healers and tanks needed .

if you like hack n slash go warrior , if your sneaky go rogue , more technical characters are Mage Priest and Warlock , they are squishy but alot more fun to play. Palladins are a mixture of all groups , most pallys are confused individuals :P ehehe jk

cheers

i'd play a rogue if you are looking for tons of fun although mabye not long term since there is an overflow of rogues everywhere. Warriors are pretty fun as well. I'm just telling you this because all the time, I hear people complaining about how Pallys suck end game and can't kill anything. The characters that every group wants is: Mage, Priest, Warrior, Rogue/Hunter, and then throw whatever you want in. Usually I see a secondary healer/support such as druid/pally/shaman.
The best classes for soloing/grinding are: Hunter, Rogue, and I think Priests are fairly good at soloing. Groupers are Priests, hybrid classes, and warriors.
Slowest classes to lvl are druids I think.

I'm playing an orc warrior. Does anyone have any recommendations for mods? I tried a compilation - Nurfed UI - but didn't really care for it. Are there any mods that you feel are a "must have"?

See, I'd prolly go a warrior, but I like being able to heal. On Sacred I went for the Mage class because he's a reasonable fighter who can also heal, which I think is a brilliant capability, rather than out and out fighter (Gladiator).
That's the kind of class I'd be looking for...

On a side note, why can't Paladins kill in the end game??

I don't know. I just heard lots of people complain how the DPS on pallys is extremely low. However, based on your wants, I'd suggest you either get a Pally or a Druid. Druids have different forms which can do just about anything. Bears are like warriors, Cats are like Rogues, and the human form is a caster/healer.

Druids is a tough one to play from what buddies say , hes like a priest who can fight , one rez per 30 minutes but decent healing powers., Every charater has his + and - , create a few and see what ya like. I went warlock , warrior , priest and I play them depending on my moods or feels.

Druid and Hunter are good soloing classes. They don't particulary excell in any areas, but are jack of all trades.

I'm a Tauren Hunter, almost lvl41, on the Bronzebeard server. I really like the Hunter, send the minion to take the pain from the enemy at melee, and I shand back and rip into the enemy with the gun.

Anyone else on the Bronzebeard server?

I racked up 2 days of total play time in my 10-day trial, I'm addicted! Had the full version for about a month now.
