I need a laptop under 1000 that will run GW and Wow decently.

hi yall. A friend of mine wants a laptop cause she's leaving home. it has to be no more than 1000 though and she wants to be able to play Guild Wars and maybe WoW.

I'm a desktop builder and have no experience in buying laptops. Any ideas? Thanks a lot!

The cheapest Dell with separate video is the Inspiron 600m, you should be able to squeeze one of those in for under $1000 if you choose options carefully and look around for discount coupons. The video is one of the ATI Mobility chips if I'm not mistaken, the cheaper models use integrated Intel chipset video with shared ram, not suitable for gaming at all.

my roomate has a compaq presario r3000 and he gets better FPS on Wow than my desktop does. I priced a R4000 on their site at $868 after rebates.

Operating System Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home Edition with SP2
Processor AMD Athlon(TM) 64 3200+ (2.0GHz/512KB L2 Cache)
Display 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
Graphics Card 128MB ATI RADEON(R) XPRESS 200M w/Hypermemory(TM)
Memory FREE Upgrade to 512MB DDR SDRAM (2x256MB)!!!
Hard Drive 60 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
Primary CD/DVD Drive DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive
Networking Integrated 56K Modem + 10/100 Ethernet LAN
Primary Battery 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
Productivity Software Microsoft(R) Works/Money

I know Compaq's not the greatest but she's on a budget. Sound ok? anything im overlooking here? Thanks.,

Just make sure you're getting a good warranty and/or warranty extended plan. Comcrap didn't earn that name just because someone was trying to be smart.

Hypermemory means shared video/system ram, all 512mb is not available to the system. Presario laptops are not built particularly well, so don't expect it to last, ditto on Nuke's recommendation for an extended warranty. A Dell (or other brand) with a Pentium-M is going to have markedly better battery life than any AMD except a Turion.

My laptop has a 128mb mobility radeon 9700 Pro in it and handles WoW fine with graphics at medium. Just look for something that has a good processor (centrino or turion), atleast 512mb of ram, and a mobility radeon 9600/9700 Pro as a minimum. I got mine at www.cyberpowerinc.com but i dont think they have any under 1k.

Edit:
Just checked out dell and even with coupons couldnt find anything worthy for under 1k. The best thing ive found near your price range is here:
http://www.cyberpowersystem.com/high...648000.asp?v=d

You could skim www.ubid.com but be sure to check if its new or manufacturer refurbished and also the warranty length, otherwise they have alot of good deals.
