Exclamation Xbox 360 - talk about power

I don't know how many people on this forum are Xbox fans (like myself) but I just have to point out the power coming with the 360.

I read in an article saying that computer systems won't be able to match the 360's power until late 2006, but, that's not what I'm hear to show you guys.

As you may or may not know, Project Gotham Racing 3 is going to be one of the opening games this holiday season with the Xbox 360 console. In one of their latest tests, they experimented with their crowd engine. They were able to get 35,000 fully 3D crowd members into a single track corner without the FPS droping. That my friends, is unbelievable...

Take a look at the article, and the included screenshot here.

i said xbox fan not xbox 360. microsoft is going to find ways to increase their price on everything. For example:i had xbox live for 3 years, the first year, it cost me 50$(canadian), the second year, it cost me 75$ and this year, febuary to be precise it was 97$ and live is the best thing xbox had. im not going to waste money on their new machine, and their expensive accesories.
Maybe, juste maybe ill buy it in a year or so.

Yeah, I think that the next gen consoles are going to be unbelievably powerful and both XBox360 and PS3 are going to give gaming computers a serious run for their money. We'll see.

Thats amazing. I have one question about the 360 though. Is it Backwards compatable? I still haven't found concrete information about this.

I dont think either will top a gaming computer...So many more options and so much more power depending on our computers hardware..Plus most of the good games come out in some form for PC and even more good games such as guild wars are out only for PC.

there's no way a computer can top the 360. 1 reason is it has a 3core cpu, right now computers only have 2core cpus. And the ATI graphics card it sports wont be in a computer system until late 2006.

As for backward compatibility, SOME games will, mainly top of the line games like Halo.. you know, the top sellers.. And as far as I know, you have to have the 20gig harddrive for this to work. But I don't see the point of wanting backwards compatibility.. the games will look exactly the same.. just play your old games on the original xbox if you want to live in the past.

EDIT: And I just want to add, Xbox live is still $50 a year here in the U.S.

Why are you saying a computer can't top a console when it will in 2006 gfx wise. In the end the computer beats the console's hardware, regaurdless of how long it takes.

But it's more about what games are comming out on what guys, after all I'm sure you're all just going to buy whatever console with the games you enjoy are on, if you have enough.

And I'd feel kinda ripped off, if there was only a limited backward compatibility, but many probably have the best selling games anyway.

yes, computers end up toping consoles... but it takes a year or two... and I for one am not a patient man.

As far as games go, I dont care if I like a Playstation game, I honestly think xbox is better and I only have money for one.. so which console do you think I'm getting?

And as I said for backwards compatibility... if all you want to do is play your old xbox games on the new xbox what's the point of buying the new one? lol. The new one is for new xbox games, not the old ones. Leave your stone age games behind people!!! C'mon! lol

i still play some old games like
WOLF 3D: http://www.3drealms.com/wolf3d/images/shot1.jpg
DOOM 2: http://www.idsoftware.com/games/doom/doom2/
Duke Nukum: http://webpages.charter.net/dawill/t...s/Duke1-3.html

you cant say to people to leave these games behind, their the insparation of the new games.

and yes, i think that xbox360 will take old games

But what if the 'old' game was a good one that just can't be done better on a new system. I can think of a few sequels that had nothing on the original

Yes I do beileve a computer can top a console. Maybe not a $600 computer, but a gaming comp like mine easily tops PS2 and Xbox, IMO I think PCs are much better for one play and oline multiplayer games, but with friends over either a LAN party or all sitting around with 4 controlers is better than switching off on the PC, especially since i dont like to share my computer with others.

3 cores is pointless since they will be coding primarily with 1 core in the beginning. When they start utilizing the third core, computers will have already caught up. Consoles get to be used only for gaming while a computer will be used for other things. Also, just wait out one or two generations on video cards. They will jump back very soon.

This doesn't come out for another year right? And it'll probably get pushed back further anyways. By then computers will have passed it up. Secondly, what good will 3 cores do, except maybe allow for a super good physics engine. They better have really good video card(s) in there.

I'm an Xbox fan but not of 360. They're focusing too much on features and specs of the console and not the games. Showing off how people can sell levels and stuff they create on Xbox Live...Instant messenging, voice communication, download new skins for the Xbox interface and removable faceplate for the Xbox itself. Just useless silly features that are jacking the price up. Backwards compatibility means Halo and Halo 2 and that's probably it. I'll be buying PS3 this time around because I have zero faith in Microsoft. The only games I really wanted for 360 was Call of Duty 2 and Elder Scrolls Oblivion which I'm pretty sure both will play on my computer. Probably not as well as the 360 but I'm not willing to fork over $400 to play 2 games.

Looking at specs/features that was released for the 360, I just love the marketing ploy of putting so much technical jargon and numbers in to make it look really good. I don't think 3/4 of the stuff they have put in the specs list will make sense to 95% of consumers.

Since when do PC's need to catch up to consoles in the power department? Going by the numbers here, the PS3's graphic processor is more 'powerful' than the xbox360s and the PS3 uses the 7800gtx core and from what i read is almost equivelant to 2 7800gtxs in sli. So actually if you have a computer with a 7800gtx and a gig of ram its already equal to or more powerful than the xbox360.... but hey its all about the gameplay anyway, the rest is just eye candy.
Your right blue, the three cores is basically for physics and sound. The firm release date is November 22nd for north america. Anyone going to be standing in line at midnight to get it? I remember standing in line at noon at walmart with a freind and waiting the 12 hours for the PS2 to come out at midnight, wow was that geeky

There is no doubt that PC gaming is better all around than consule. BUT, the Xbox360 and the PS3 looks to be pulling pretty darn close. So it should prove to be interesting. Personally I am excitied, I don't know why people are turning it into a vs. match.
