Thanks to all the peeps who help in my last post. . . now that the major 1 is sorted i have 1 other annoying problem. . .when im on the net and playing something (eg counter-strike) my computer will freze up at random over any length of time and gives me a loud tone - its not a beep cos its continuous and the only way to get rid of it is to restart. (to check my specs look on my last post) any ideas?

That sounds like a sound card problem. It's possible that your sound card is sharing an irq with the nic and is giving problems.

Hi wickedmonkey,
Do you know which motherboard you have? I had the exact same problem with my MSI K7T Pro with AC97 onboard sound. I tried every driver and every setting but in the end it turned out that the chipset was just junk, so I disbaled it and installed a new sound card. If the problems still happens I recommend you do the same, and the sound will be much better with any soundcard other than the onboard. Hope that helps.
