PC gaming VS. Console Gaming

Okay, I have noticed in quite a few threads, many concerning the XBox 360, that they turn into battle between those who beleive console gaming (this includes Nintendo, Sony, and Microsofts consoles) is superior to pc gaming and vice versa. (putting cost aside, of course)

I would like to make this thread about the pros and cons about each, and why you prefer one over the other.

This thread is NOT intended to be used to bash on consoles or pc's but for a comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of each.

Here is my input : PC gaming has the current advantage over console gaming for 4 reasons. 1) PCs are easily upgradable to be ontop of the newest gaming technology. 2) Many of the newest PC games have online multiplayer versions that can be played for free without having to buy some connection for your console and subsribe for a service 3) PCs can also be used for other purposes like browsing internet or word processing 4) Many games have built in voice chat and there are many programs like Team Speak that allow team communications on multiplayer online games.

I am interested in seeing why you like either console gaming or PC gaming more and why.

Note - I havent noticed if this thread has been done before, so I felt like starting it.

A lot of people argue that one is better than the other, but I don't really feel that way. PC has it's advantages, but consoles have some things I like that aren't so much not as good on PC, but non-existant.

Consoles let you play with your friends in your house. 4 player mario party, mario tennis, Halo, or any other 4 player game where you and 3 of your best buddies can go at it is priceless. There are very few PC games I have seen where you can even play more than 1 person at a time, and with monitors being smaller than TV's typically, you might not want to anyway.

PC games still have their place though. Not as many of my friends have a PC capable of playing games, so I honestly only play PC games with one of my friends. CS:S is a lot of fun, and I plan on getting other games as well.

If you really like gaming, see if you can get both PC games, and a console. If you can only get one, I would go with a console because they are cheaper, and if all you need are web surfing and office applications, you can build a pretty cheap PC for that. If aren't in highschool anymore and your friends aren't as interested in playing games, you might want to go with PC games anyway. That is just my advice.

I prefer PC gaming better than console gaming for a couple reasons. However I do have an Xbox I just don't use it a lot, but I still enjoy it.
The big advantage I see with consoles is if you buy a console every game you buy you know will work. The requrements are already met. Unlike a PC.
But I like PC gaming because I have a decent PC (in sig). More customizeable and I enjoy a lot of shooter games, and those are more fun On PC IMO.

I love sports games on consoles, but the only reason I like playing FPS's on the computer is because its easier to control with a mouse and keyboard, then it is with two little joysticks. Thats the main issue I have between console and pc.

well for some of the consoles, they can surf the net and what not, the ps2 had an upgrade where u install linux, i really hope they do something simlar to the ps3 (MAC and Sony are trying to do a deal) so maybe the PS3 might be my next comp... it wont totally replace the PC i mean so much stuff is only compatiable in XP (or windows in general). one of my fav thing of pc is the game choice, playing RTS on a console, is rather hard.

defintely upgrade on pc, but consoles are rather more stable...

I prefer PC gaming. I agree with everything ryan said, and als814. Consoles do have the advantage of being able to play with your friends in the same room. Also consoles are typically more user-friendly.

I think it depends on the type of game. Sports games, racing games, platformers and traditional rpgs play much better on consoles. RTS, FPS, and mmorpgs are better on pc. PC's have better graphics although console games sound better on my surround sound setup. So yea just depends, I wouldnt say one is overly better than the other.

Consoles are fun for parties, and are better for sporting games.
Computers are better for most things. They are both valid
