PSP emulator help

I heard that you cant play certain games on psp with out the update, but some guy in the store told me i might be able to keep the emulator stuff on one disc and the other games on another. I want midnight club 3 for this and u need to update, how can i and still download emulator stuff?

what kind of emu are we talking about? some are illegal.

Only illegal if you dont own the originals of the games you are emulating. And im assuming he owns them or wouldnt be asking, right? I dont understand what you mean when you say keep emulator stuff on one disc and games on another. You mean keep them on seperate memory sticks? So when you run the update does it just put an update file on the memory stick or does it update the firmware of the psp for good? If its just updated when you have the memory stick with the update on it in the psp, you should be able to keep the emu and homebrew stuff on a seperate memory stick as long as it doesnt have the update on it.
