Question What causes a game to dump to the desktop

My wife is playing an online game called Mythic's Dark Ages of Camelot-Catacombs. She has had an on going problem of getting booted out to desktop. We've gone to the game forums for help as well as Mythic. Everybody has come up with different solutions to this problem. A Windows pops up a box stating " App Name: game.dll, App Ver: 0.1.5.2, mod name: d3d9.dll, Mod Ver: 5.3.2600.2180, offset:99987da2"

What I'm wondering is if I were to delete and reinstall Windows do you think
I'd bugger up her computer? I've used the repair in Windows but that didn't solve the problem.
Also would a new video card help IE: GeForce card?

She keeps her various drivers up to date but that doesn't solve the problem. Her computer is scanned for adware, spyware and virus weekly. (SE ADWARE, Spybot, Norton 2005 Anti virus).

Her system: MB ECS K7s5A, AMD 1.1 Gig Chip, 1.024 Gig RAM, Radeon ATI 9000 AGP Video Board, XP Home 5.1 SP2, Creative 5.1 sound Card, Logitech internet keyboard and optical mouse (wired) Direct X 9 (4.09.0000.0904}
She has NIC on MB, plus D-link 10-100 NIC card and router, we're LAN between our computer, thur XP and we've used both (one at a time)
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Does her system meet the recommendations of the game? I would try to update the game and the video card drivers.

Hi Blue
Yes her computer exceeds the game required. She gets updates weekly and she updated the ATI drivers not to long ago.

Thanks Blue I went to the site and Yes she has an AMD socket 462 MB and a socket A chipset. (1.1 Gig i think) It's an Athlon Chipset. I don't think it was XP compatable when we bought it. Do you know if I can install up an XP update?
Thanks

Do you have SP1 installed? Or SP2?

Did you try blue60007's link?

http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/...1_2336,00.html
Download the one that says: Windows® 2000/XP AGP Driver - Microsoft Digitally-Signed, Version 5.33 (Windows® 2000/XP only)

Question

She has SP2 installed. When I did a system check it listed the processor as x86 Family 6 Model 6 stepping 2 Authentic AMD ~1145 Mhz.
Tomorrw I'll have to go to the company that built the comp for me and see what the actual chip is. We bought it in Dec 2002. I'm not sure what driver to download.

I had a problem similar and figured out that there was a program running in the background conflicting with the game. Have you tried shutting down all other programs running in your systray and background and then running the game?

Thanks for your reply. We'll try elimating non-essential programs and see if that works. My wife tried loading the game a different way, it was ok for a while but the problem eventually came back again.
So we'll try it your way and see if that works
Thanks again to the folks who posted the last two threads.
