Which WoW?

I've searched through some other posts and read about all the raiding, dungeon exploring, etc... I just got WoW III, Reign of Caos. Where is this "big" world at? Did I get the wrong game? The one I have just shows a big map that you build stuff on, mine gold, chop down trees, occasionaly get attacked by other armies. It does go online with battle.net, but it's still the same concept. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but it's getting to be winter and I wanted to settle down with a good game. I have read various forums at WoW and Blizzard, but there's nothing I glean about which WoW I should have...

World of Warcraft cant be beaten and never will be beaten.

How can you say that Warcarft 3 is better when your actually playing your character in real life form in World of Warcraft?

Pay per month big deal... 15$ Us ? thats what .50cents a day? how many hours worked does it take to cover 15$ ?

Just let the game decide for you.

Because playing Warcraft 3 doesn't cause me to sit at my computer for an average of 1day/week to play it

And it's more fun playing strategy games than MMORPGs I reckon (although I did like Sacred)

Warcraft III isn't going to eat up your life like WoW. All the time I read posts on this site and others about how you can't even really get into the game if you only have an hour a day to play it. To me, that just seems wrong.

To each their own. I grew up on games like C&C: Red Alert and Starcraft, so I really love a good RTS game; however, some people really prefer role playing games. They are both of very high quality, so which is better is merely personal opinion.

Ok, I ended up getting WoW. Absolutely love it. Do spend an inordinate amount of time playing, but since I get home @ 1300 and my wife and son are working/school, it works out. Made it to a lvl 13 Pallidin last night. Was really excited to discover the auction house in Iron Forge. Got a kick butt sword for cheap. Anyone wanting to get rid of gold? I play under the name BoatLord. Wouldn't take "God"...

BoatGod, which server are you on, I see you are on the side of good, with a Paladin and have found your way to Ironforge.

Since you are in Ironforge already I assume you are a dwarf, same as myself.

Also since you are in Ironforge, you must travel to StormWind, via the Tram in the Gnome (tinker town) area of IronForge.

Anyways, let me know if you are on Dark Iron Server. PM might be the best.

Has BoatGod been back in a while or have we totally lost him to WOW?

BoatGod incase you are reading this and need a way to make some coin early in the game like I did, pick up Skinning and Mining as professions, very little to do, but skin and mine stuff you can sell on the AH. IF you don't like those professions I understand you can drop them. Those are what I have, and at lvl 46, most of my coin comes from things I mine and skin.

Also on my server, i am ranked in the top 1000 players in PVP, 551.

How do you know if your in the top 1000 on your server, is there a website to check? I have skinning and leathworking, both artisan and im doing the dragonscale leathworking quest right now. Im lazy so I usually buy leather from the ah cheap rather than grind it if i can. Im a hunter so leatherworking is very handy as I rarely have to buy any armor and can make my own quivers and armor kits. Hopefully I will be able to make the black dragonscale armor after a couple trips through MC.

yup, official.

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/pvp/i...almSelect=true

If the link don't work, go to the main page and look on the left for PVP rankings.

Then pick your server and side.

Could someone explain to me the difference between Alliance and Horde?? I understand that they're both enemies and the like, but is there any difference in performance, or is it just different areas are hostile to different sides??

OK, after 2 weeks, made it to lvl 21. Am on the Garona server. Absolutely great getting in groups and doing dungeons. So much fun! I do mining/blacksmithing. Have just about 5 gold. The first gold was the hardest, others came easy. Still many things to learn, ppl get mad when you raid a dungeon and pick "need" for every drop. Oh well, you live you learn. My wife thought it was so cool that the towns are decorated for halloween and that you can wear costumes everywhere. Can't wait for Christmas! Oh well, have to get back to the dungeon...

Alliance is the "good" side, and Horde is the "bad" side, so to speak. Alliance contains - Gnomes, Dwarfs, Humans, and Night Elfs. Horde has - Tauren, Orcs, and Undead.

Both sides are fun. I play both a Pally (Alliance) and Shaman (Horde).

There is no major difference in performance based on faction or race, that's mostly determined by class. Although each race has it's special abilites. Just a couple off the top of my head, Gnomes +5% intellect, Night Elves can Shadow Meld, Dwarfs have Stoneform and +5 Guns, etc.

And yes, WoW owns WC3.

Edit - Just noticed we have a couple other Dwarf Paladins here... Keep your fingers crossed that they do us some justice in 1.9!

Edit again - Byte, you seem to have gone off the deep end as bad as everyone else. Pretty soon you're gonna end up like Pro!

Pretty correct,

There are areas that are alliance and horde areas. As well as Contested areas.

I play alliance, so when in alliance area, no horde can attack me, unless I provoke them.

In contested areas, anyone can attack anyone.

In horde area, I can not attack horde unless they provoke me.

If they don't believe it is an upgrade, show them what you currently use. What is it, they want to get those items to sell to vendors mainly, some of it sells on the AH. They are just being greedy.

You will find a guild and when working with your guild, they really should work on the Need system.

Last night, I was with a guild group and they all determined an item was a need for me, before I said anything. I got a very nice upgrade.

A side note to those who play...

The expansion is gonna be revealed next weekend at Blizzcon. I, for one, am excited as all hell. I've heard a rumor that max level is going to be increased from 60 to 75, guess we'll see.

/cheer

Sorry, should have clarified that I'd read the site and worked it out for myself. I don't understand this provoking thing though. Does that mean if I were to be, say, Horde, and I was in an Alliance area, then unless they attacked me I couldn't attack them??

I've read they're going to release a few new races for the new expansion. I went back through the old games and looked at what races they might add, if anyone is interested say so and I'll post my ideas

correct. also keep in mind you get honor points for killing ememy players.

If I see any horde around that I can take, I jump them like mad. espeically if they are on my side of the line or in contested areas. I don't like going though Horde controlled areas, but now that I have my horse, I run though and hope for the best.

Warcraft 3 is free to play on line. Its a totally different game. I just a few hours a week and I can still be just as good as anyone else. That is not possible on WoW unless you get your accounts off Ebay. Cost effective? WoW no way. Its monthley.

It helps keep things fair. The Alliance/Horde territories are only for players that are questing up to about level 20 or so. It gives you a safe zone, so that as a low level player, you don't have to worry about higher level players coming through and wiping you as you're questing.

After you hit level 20-25 or so, you'll head out to contested areas to quest. Then everything is fair game, anyone can attack at will.

Keep in mind though, this is only on PVP servers. On a PVE server, you can go anywhere in the world (except BGs) and not worry about being attacked by the opposing faction.

I'm really glad that my server is a PvE server. I'm farming for my epic mount now, and there are so many Alliance Rogues who farm alongside me in Azshara. I would just get ganked so many times! Sometimes when 3 Alliance turn up and camp a spawn which I was at, I want to start shooting at them though!

Just for the record, Alliance isn't the "good" side, nor is the Horde the "bad" side. Read the manual, it says that neither side is the good side or the bad side. Otherwise there would be more people wanting to be "good" and would go to Alliance. And don't forget Trolls, mon

Is that like respawn camping in Bond on the N64?? If so, that's lame, I'd want to shoot them myself

Of course there's good and band... originally the humans were the goodies and the orcs the aggressors. It was only with the arrival of the Burning Legion that the orcs joined the humans and muddied the water. But I can understand what you're trying to say... there aren't any 'evil' races

And as if everyone would join Alliance if they were the goodies... I reckon the opposite, people wanting to be bad to the bone (without writing a virus :P) want need the release it gave
