Most atmospheric game

So what game gives you the most deep/unique sensations? My choice would be Resident Evil (remake for GC).

Edit: AOE2's historical feel also had me hooked for a very long time

I'm sure mean newer games, but the original DooM and DooM 2 still have a spot for me. Undying, which I have to replay as I never finished it the first time, was pretty good in the sensation department. System Shock 2 was very spooky -- I love it! DooM 3 was good, but was lacking at the same time for me. And, of course, HL2 has set a new standard IMHO.

It didnt have as much action as doom but for pure atmosphere the original Unreal was excellent. The sounds and the cutting edge graphics were very immersive.

I would have to say either Unreal2004 for its graphics side, Doom3 for its scary side (not too scary but still) and FarCry for the maps and environment and setting.

Im gonna have to add Call of Duty (PC) to the list. I thought the cinematics of that game were excellent.

Another vote for Far Cry..amazing game and still is despite its age. Good times
The Environments are huge, and incredibly detailed. I also love anything in a tropical setting.

Half Life 2 tops my list along with Call of Duty and Medal of Honor Allied Assault. I also really like Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising. It is really imerssive with it's massive 150+ player multiplayer battles. The F.E.A.R. demo is also up there and may be on top when I play the full game.

I think Unreal 1 and Half Life 2 tie for me. Although Unreal 1 is still my favorite PC game of all time.

call of duty (just played that after seeing band of brothers... really intense) battlefield series, and F.E.A.R. idk but that really got to me... bullets pinging off the walls... incredible.

LOL! -- Naw.. not yet, but I'm on the way! I've been replaying all my older games since I've upgraded, though. I've replayed HL & Blue Shift, System Shock 2, and a few others. Undying is queued up next

FarCry has all the aspects of a great environment, 1)tropic 2) enough vegetation to hide and sleath in 3) bright so you arent fooling around in pitch blackness waiting for something to leapout at you and your flashlight 4) has both water and land in its maps and you can fully interact with the enviroment

First play of FarCry didn't suit me well, but I did like it at the same time, though. First, I was running it with an 9800 Pro, so the graphics weren't near what they could / should be, plus a lot was going 'round the house so I didn't really have the time to play it as it should be played, which is stealthy as ryan124712 mentions. It's on my replay list, but on the bottom, since I've upgraded to the X800.

hahaha I was running mine on my freak MX440, it's kinda like HiHo's crazy card that punches way above it's weight... and no concerns here.

FarCry has lots of different setting for the video to handle almost any card..... Of course who does like playing it with all the Eye Candy?

Actually, with my 6600 GT the demo looks terrible. Appearently it's a glitch that was fixed in the full game but it looks more like Quake I in the demo. It looked far better on my old Ti 4800. I'm going to buy the game soon and see how it runs.

Even with dual 6800s I got poor rendering until I notched up AA and AF to their fullest settings, other wise the map would adopt large dark patches as if a shadow from clouds but very rectangular.

I just bought the game and I'm about to install it. I sure hope it works well.

EDIT: By the way, is there a DVD version of Far Cry? It came on 5 CD's!

Mech Warrior 2 had an incredible feel. I don't know if I will ever experience that again.

Max Payne and Max Payne 2 for me. The storylines in both games are compelling enough that somebody should have made a Max Payne movie.

EDIT: I also have to agree with the Mech Warrior crowd here...those are fantastic games. I wonder if a new one will ever be released?

i say alot of microsoft RTS games really pull you in. AoE (II and III) and AoM have historical and informational cut scenes between every level to keep you interested. i was hooked on these games from the start

No Max Payne movies, please. The game is awesome and needs not to be defaced by a movie. I am yet to see a good adaptation from a game to the screen. Just take a look at the Tomb Raider movies if you don't believe such injustice to a game can be made.

Yes, there was a rumour that there was gonna be a Max Payne movie, even a Max Payne 3 computer game, but in spite of being a superb game Max didn't sell well. No more rumours have been made or the initial ones confirmed. Which I think is a good thing.
