Battlefield 2 problems only in multiplayer

I just recently purchased this game from Circuit city and have installed it. I've downloaded the v1.03 patch and can play singleplayer mode all I want, but when I finally tried to play multiplayer I get locked up with a blank blue screen with no error messages. I've un and reinstalled the game twice, repatched as well. I've already closed all backround tasks in processes and even deleted some cach files. I've contacted my ISP(Road Runner) and they said that they do not block any ports. All drivers updated and cd key re-entered through bf2 support file. Even updated punkbuster because the new patch deletes some content in th pb file in BF2 folder. When I choose multiplayer for 16 players due to only 512ram, it does its loading and will pull up the server lists and everything. Then I can join a server/map and it will actually connect and verifies client software. It lets me choose which kind of soldier I want to be and then when it first spawns me on to the map, thats when the screen turns blue and computer just locks up and I have to manually shut it down. I know its not a hardware issue because I can play singleplayer mode all day. Please any help would be much appreciated. And sorry for such a long post. Thanks!!!!

I just went and bought it without demo playing. my friend told me it was a cool game, but he didn't say anything about having to spend an extra hundred to play it. Well now I have 2x 256mb ram can only really afford to buy a 1g. So I would have 1.28 of ram that should be good enough right?
Thanks for replying!

You might want to read through a few post on the tech forum for Battlefield 2 : http://www.forumplanet.com/planetbat....asp?fid=13392

Do a search for other people with the same/similar problem in multiplayer.
The extra ram should help, people who play it alot go for 2 gigs if they can afford it.

I tried to patch the game with 1.03 that resulted in getting past the load screen after choosing language then back to desktop. Tried uninstalling, could not find install file. Reformatted and reloaded game then patched successfully, now i can join a multiplayer game no problem even run around for a min then pc locks up, needs hard reboot to recover. Game ran fine before patch with only 512mb ddr installed now running 1gb matched pair ddr. Oh and i can play single player all day long.

What do you reckon guys.

80 gig Sata Hitachi Deskstar, Radeon 9600 256mb, Neovo 17 lcd screen, Win XP pro Sp2.

Getting kicked from servers is a problem to take to these guys : http://www.forumplanet.com/planetbat....asp?fid=13392

In the future it's a better idea to start your own thread. We've got the space.

I actually was able to play in multiplayer mode last night for like two rounds 10-20 minutes, but locked up to blank blue screen at the start of third round. I then rebooted and played single player for about an hour or two and nothing happened. I know it not my video card overheating, so could it be that I don't have enough ram(512mb) to run the multiplayer?

In your case another stick of ram (512mb) would be a good idea.

This may help a bit

Hi all,

I was browsing www.tweakguides.com site and noticed interesting note. This is copy-paste from original site:

"
Disabling the Intro Movies

The introductory movies to BF2, although fun to watch the first couple of times, fast become quite annoying, adding to the startup times for the game, as well as the memory usage (the main movie is 135MB in size). To disable them permanently, I don't recommend deleting the movie files - this may cause problems with verification of client information on certain servers and/or with Punkbuster.

Instead, simply rename the relevant files in your \Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Movies\ directory to something else (e.g. rename the Intro.bik to Intro.backup). The files to rename are: Dice.bik, EA.bik, Intro.bik, Legal.bik and Welcome.bik. This will mean the intro movies are all skipped as BF2 starts to load. If you find the movies playing in the background of the Login screen and Settings screens annoying, you can also rename the menu.bik and menu_loggedin.bik to something else as well.

If you've also renamed/removed the menu.bik and menu_loggedin.bik movies, and don't want a dull grey background in the in-game menus, then download this small BF2 Menu Movies .zip file, and extract the contents to your \Movies directory. These small files (100KB each) show the BF2 logo in the background, and look much nicer. Thanks to EdisLeado for preparing and hosting this file.

Removing all the original movies from the game can save over 250MB of data being loaded up during the start of the game and being placed into memory - this will help smooth your gameplay particularly for those with less RAM. If for any reason you experience any problems with the game after renaming the movies, simply rename them back to their original names.
"

I haven't tested it yet but gonna do it tonight

Does anyone install the gamespy arcade when you install BF2? Someone told me that could be the problem because gamespy downloads trojans and ad aware into your computer.

I tried it and it works flawlessly. Game starts really fast and in my opinnion it eased the gameplay. The best thing is that after closing the game, game actually closes within few seconds. No more MEC music 60-90 seconds after quitting.

One more question, I have a 9500 Radeon 128mb, in game all video settings are low, should my screen resolution be set to 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768? Right now it is set to 1024 X 768, would it matter?

i started getting same blue screen with no error post yesterday. First I was getting kicked for corrupted file/memory. So I manually updated PB. Since then my game is crashing 5-10 sec after joining a server. I think damn punkbuster causing that.
Exact same thing happens when I try to play BF1942. And it started after I updated PB.
I have a feeling this is going to be my last EA game.

Just installed a total of 1024mb of ram, un and reinstalled bfs again, repatched, updated punkbuster again, re entered cd key, and of course still have blue screen crash. I've got $150 in this game and still no fix, thumbs down for EA and Dice, I'm over it, game is for sale on ebay.

It seems a shame not to at least try the community web site for game problems.
As far as I can tell you've never checked it out.
It's here : http://forums.easports.com/mboards/f...=2&forumID=143
Do a search for your problem or register an post if you don't find the specific problem.
I've heard the charge about spyware but I've never come across any proof.

i know exactly what you are talkin about! had the same troubles and it took me weeks to figure it out
updated each important driver of my system, made ram tests and even bought new one, switched from a 9800xt to a 6800gt, re-installed win, you name it

but i forgot one driver to update just because it didn't seem important: the driver of the s-ata controller (board has been a nforce2 asus a7n8x-e deluxe)

so if you're usin s-ata drives switch to another driver version and have fun playin the game .... you'll enjoy it even more just like i did

If Dell has an update for your board it will be on it's web site.
Go over there and check out any updates for your model.

how do I update it? I loaded the driver off a floppy when I was installing XP. I'm using the Intel driver. Also do I get it from Intel web-site?

Send a message via AIM to Turbo91Bird
lower your video settings and the lag should go away.
