Problems with gaming

Hey, I really didn't know where to put this so I just dumped it here. I am no wizz on a computer but I like my games and I have a problem - When playing on games, it works fine for atleast half an hour or so but then cuts out onto the desktop without an error message or restarts the computer completely and says "No Signal". I thought it could be overheating but I am not sure, never used to be like this.
This is obviously a problem because I am buying Black and White 2 tommorow and I really don't like the idea of playing 15 to 30 minutes of gameplay at a time!
Thanks.

go into adminstative tools in control panel, then into event log and look around. Maybe you'll see some errors.

You also may have heat problems. Are all fans spinning - on CPU, Video card, case fans?

Can you post specs for your system that people knew what we are dealing with?

Do the following : Control panel, system, advanced, startup and recovery - uncheck restart on error.

That way you'll be able to read the error message.
Post it here along with your specs (that's your OS, video cards, etc. for a home build or the make and model if you have Dell or Sony, etc. . ).

To check for a heat problem leave the side off the case, if that's possible, and see what happens. Also blow out any dust bunnies in residence with a can of compressed air.

Thumbs up

Well, I left the side off a while ago but it didn't change a thing, my computer's insides are very dusty so prehaps that could be a problem?

My comps specs:
Windows XP
Mesh Computer
Pentium 4
CPU Speed 3.39 GHZ
896MB of RAM
Sound Card SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio
Video Card DirectX 9.0c 128 MB Pixel Shader 1.4

Thats about all of it.

Dust can cause a heat problem all on it's own, so yes.
The other possibility, with a computer that restarts and getting dumped back at the desktop, is a power supply that's over taxed.
This can also be a heat related.
So clean up the computer and we'll have a better shot at judging what's going on.
I don't recognize your video card, is it integrated?
What games are you playing now?

What games are you playing? As Pam123 mentioned, the dust could cause overheating. Also, looking at your specs, it DOES appear that you have integrated video (896+128=1024) so you may have issues with the graphics not being powerful enough to run the game or not having enough RAM as some is used for video so the game boots you to desktop. Just thought..............

I agree, could be heat, could be powersupply, could be the integrated video. Eliminate the possibilities one at a time. Use canned air to remove dust from the case and train a regular house fan so that it blows into your case. If you plan on playing Black and White 2 I think you would want to purchase a video card anyway. You can post here your needs and how much you would want to spend on a video card and we can recommend a couple cards that would best suit you. If the problem persists could be powersupply, ram failing maybe?

Hey guys, new member. Found this site searching for this very topic on BF2.
Maybe you can help. I can run everything just great, smooth graphics, single player and multiplayer. But after mabye 2 min., mabye 40 mins. it crashes to desktop on multiplayer. No errors. And I reload and have fun until it does it again. My specs are : 350w ps , 6600GT card, 1 gig SDRAM, 3.0 prescott(not overclocked) , Asrock P4V88 mobo.
I have opened the case, for heat issues, blowen a fan onto the box, my case is clean, I built the comp myself so I know everything thats in it. What really bugs me is how random the crash is. I can play for 2 hours straight and have the time of my life, then the next day I can't play for more then 5 mins. without a crash. Thanks for your help.
Ryan.
