My computer has been freezing and giving me errors alot lately.
The errors only come when im playing counter-strike but i get random freezes at any time. My computer freezes up and it makes a loud beeeeeeeeep noise I have all the latest drivers and my computer is free of viruses and trojans and whatnot. What could i do to stop this from happening?? |

This could be symptoms of an overheating CPU or system ram problems. The loud beep could be a bios temperature alarm.
You didn't give any system details, so I will give you some generic suggestions. Open the case and thoroughly clean all the dust out. Reseat all cards and connectors, including the ram modules and CPU. Verify that all your fans are clean and properly operating. Make sure that your CPU heatsink/fan assembly is properly mounted with heatsink compound and is sitting square on top of the CPU. If you have a high performance video card, make sure there is no card in the slot next to it to allow airflow and eliminate IRQ sharing, and consider putting a chipset fan on it if it doesn't already have one (this is possible with some but not all cards). |

I totally agree with glc. I just had a similar problem with an old Socket 7 system that I hadn't opened up in quite some time. Kept getting blue screens and protection errors. I opened up the case and it was full of dust and lint balls. The front case fan was running good, and so was the power supply fan, but the processor fan was only spinning at about 25% of it's normal speed. I pulled it off the heat sink and cleaned it up but to no avail. I guess I had just waited too long. I went ahead and put a new generic fan/heatsink on and the errors vanished. This was just this morning...
Best of luck.

TT - I have brought sick fans back to life with a shot of WD-40 into the motor/bearing area, but if you are gonna waste that much time you might as well replace the fan - they are cheap enough - generic Socket 7 heatsink/ball bearing fan assemblies cost me $5 and a tube of Radio Shack heatsink compound is $1.98. Sleeve bearing fans suck though.

Nevermind i got it off. I just put the heatsink/fan on and took out the old huge fan that blows on it because it has 2 fans on the heatsink and i needed two places to plug it in. I havent played any games yet but im about to.
