NVidiot HELP!!
I'm confused... on the NVidia site it shows the latest Detonator drivers to be version 12.41. Here, however, it shows 8.03 and 12.90. I downloaded the zip files of all 3 for win98 (12.41, 8.03, 12.90) and the files contained in the zips of 8.03 & 12.90 are not even similar to those in the 12.41 zip. The 8.03/12.90 zips are mostly a bunch of .hlp files. Can anyone explain?
UDATE: well, I think I have it... there just are a lot more help files. The driver files are all there, just no "readme.txt" for us newbies. I changed the vid driver from what I had (12.41)to "Std PCI (VGA)" and then rebooted and changed to the new 12.90 drivers. Running 3DMark 2001 was very shaky and didn't finish. I reverted to 12.60 and ended up improving my 3DMark 2001 store by 105 (2276) over that obtained using 12.41. I wonder if changing the agp driver (of the 4in1) would help?????

Hi WJWheels,
I believe those are just leaked beta drivers, not official ones. A lot of people use the different beta drivers (5.x, 6.x, 7.x, 8.x, 10.x, and 12.x versions) because each one works better for different nVidia cards. I myself always just use the latest official driver from nVidia's site and have no problems with them. Here is a list of all the beta drivers: http://www.3dchipset.com/beta/nvidia/nvidia.html Hope that helps.

WJWheels,
Yeah, different drivers give different results. That's why most people try the latest drivers, in hopes if getting the extra hundred or so points in 3DMark 2001. If you look around you can probably find out which ones give the best scores for the GF2, GF2MX, GF2U, etc. But like I said, I'd rather stick to the officials where I know I won't have stability problems. |

WJ, I'm using the 12.90 beta leaked drivers and they run very well on my GeForce 256 and on my GeForce 2 GTS. I eeked out about 25 more points in 3D Mark 2001 on the GeForce 2 machine. If you're looking for a site with alot of the leaked drivers in one place, try The-Cntrl-Alt-Del drivers page. They have a plethora of drivers... Official and Leaked!

Thanks Tiretool. I'm going to try the 12.90 on my wifes 64mb GF DDR Ultra. As far as my winMe pc not finishing the test, I have a problem with restarts on that pc. I often have to force a shutdown and then power up as it won't come back on after ordering a restart. Being 3DMark almost restarts between tests, that is what happened when I was running 12.90 on it.

I recently downloaded 12.41 off of nvidia's site. It claims to be the official release. Should I take this with a grain of salt? Also, I have a 3DprophetII mx; will this detonator driver work on it? The prophet has a geforce2mx on it.

Yes, the Detonator drivers will work. My 3Dmark score improved almost 10% using the 12.90 beta drivers as opposed to the 12.41. That was with my 64mb GEForce Ultra DDR.
