Fear Lockups
Hi all , anyone having problems with fear?? Im getting random freezes, lock ups , and major stuttering. With all settings on min , i still get lock ups.
Ive got the latest 5.10 cats on , and ive tried the dna,s over the top. Installed the patch too. This is a great game, and its frustrating having to rebbot all the time. My system should be more than capable of playin this , and it doesnt do it on any other game.

Im running the Cat 5.9s, 5.10 has some issues. Im running at 1024x768 with everything on medium on my 9800 Pro and getting a steady 55FPS. I was using Cat 4.11 before and I got a slideshow no matter which settings I used.

You shouldnt have to, especially with his setup. This is why I dont like ATI at all. My setup in my sig runs FEAR flawlessly at almost all max settings. Looks stunning. I dunno man, try updating/reinstalling drivers? |

The card being an ATI has nothing to do with it. There is no way a 6600GT is gonna be better then an X800 XT. Fear is a resource hog and it takes a lot. I suggest you set everything to "Let the application chose", then go into Fear and do the "Auto Detect". That should clear up everything.

Guys, tried everything you,ve suggested , all still the same . My cousin and i built our systems at the same time, and we used identical parts. His runs flawlessly. Ive been on the fear forum , and there are alot of people in the same boat. No other game has been like this , doom 3 , riddick , all on 1600 x 1200 , and max settings played great. What is wierd , is that both demos were perfect, so how can that be ???
Ive even emailed vu games , this is the reply i got back .( ive tried all that they suggest too) Hello Peter, Thank you for contacting Vivendi Universal Games Technical Support. My name is Shiraz, Regarding this, please let me know the exact text of the error message. also, follow the troubleshooting steps given below and let me know if it helps. Step1. Close applications in the background. a. To prevent extra applications and services from loading during startup please use the steps below: -Click Start button then Run -In the box type MSCONFIG and click OK. -This will bring up the System Configuration Utility. -Click the Startup tab. This displays a list of all non-vital applications and processes that are loaded during startup. -Click the Disable All button to uncheck these items. -Click OK. When you are prompted to restart, click yes -Upon reboot, these applications will not start. If it works, then one of these programs may be conflicting. Open MSCONFIG using the process above and recheck these programs using the process of elimination to determine the conflicting program. b. To undo the above changes: -Click Start then Run -In the box type MSCONFIG and click OK. -This will bring up the System Configuration Utility. -On the General tab, click the dot next to Normal Startup -Click OK. When you are prompted to restart, click yes -This will restart your computer with all the background applications re-enabled. If problem persist go to next step. Step2. Make sure you're running the up-to-date version of the game. Please check for the game updates by clicking on Start button ->All Programs ->Company or game name->Update the game. If the game does not have an option for the update please go to our web site at: http://vugames.com/downloads.do and get the update from there. If problem persist after the game update is installed go to next step. Step3. Change the Resolution and Color depth Try resetting your computer's video display settings to one of the following Resolution/Color Depth combinations: 800x600 with 16-bit color. 1024x768 with 16-bit color. 800x600 with 32-bit color. 1024x768 with 32-bit color How to switch the Resolution and Color Depth? -Click on Start button -> then Control Panel, or Start button-> then Settings-> and Control Panel -Double-click the Display icon. -Click the "Settings" tab. -Change the Resolution/Color combinations and then Click Apply then Ok and follow the on-screen instructions. If your display does not look right after you switch resolutions, leave your computer alone for approximately 15 seconds, and windows will automatically restore your previous settings. If you cannot switch over to one of the combination settings mode, you may need to re-install the video drivers for your card, or obtain updated drivers (Steps4). Try running the game and if problem persist continue to the next step. Step4. Update your video and sound card drivers: First determine what type of video card you have. To do this: -Click on Start button and then run -In the open box type DXDIAG. Click OK. This will bring up the DirectX Diagnostic Tool window. -When the tool finishes loading, click the Display tab for the Video card and Sound 1/Sound (for Win98/ME) tab for the Sound card. -In the Device section, next to Name is the name/model of your video/sound cards. -You may want to write those down. The Manufacturer is the company that manufactured your video/sound cards. To find the latest driver go to the manufacturer's web site. They should have a support section or a driver section where you can find the drivers for the device listed in DXDIAG. Follow the instructions on the manufacturer's web site to download and install the latest drivers. If you can't find a driver or the manufacturer's site, refer to the documentation that came with the hardware or your computer for support. If the problem persists, please click the Save All Information button from Dierctx Diagnostic Tool window and save the Dxdiag.txt file. Please attach the dxdiag.txt file with your response. Regards, Shiraz Vivendi Universal Games Technical Support |

I don't know what else to tell you other then I would double check ALL the drivers your cousin has and make sure or reinstall the ones he has on your machine. Also, make sure that heat isn't an issue. Check your video card temps and your cpu temps during in game.
Did you submit your dxdiag.txt file to them? |

SORTED !!!!!! couldnt find an updated set of drivers , so i went on driver headquarters.com, and scanned my pc for outdated drivers . 65% were old !!! One of them being the sound card . ran the update , and to my utter disbelief the game now runs with ALL settings on high and in 1600 x 1200 with no stutter.
I am astonished that an audio driver can cause this. Thanx for all the help , especially turbo , cheers dude. |
