If you were to get one game for Christmas

If I was to get one game for Christmas what would you recommend me getting?

-- I dont have any games for Pc besides COD 1 so all games are fair game.
I like strategy games and action type games.

Doom3, FarCry, GuildWars, AOE 3, BF2

They are all good.

Half-Life 2 with Counter-Strike: Source if you don't already have it.

For strategy, if you like military/war, I'd suggest Command and Conquer: Generals and Zero Hour. If you perfer some more to the past, with knights and such, I'd suggest Age of Empires: II, or maybe even Age of Empires: III. If your into more fantasy/magic type of theme, Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and Frozen Throne, might be what your looking for. A really good one would be Starcraft, has this sci-fi type of theme. There's a whole bunch more, can't really remember them right now. ;s

I love FPS games, so I would get COD2, F.E.A.R., or BF2.

The games I wanted got postponed till spring 2006.
So no Dreamfall or Oblivion, but I'm getting really interested in F.E.A.R. .

Yup, the online is fun. Gets a little boring with only one level, though.

Personally, instead of buying the latest games expensively, buy a few slightly older ones that are on sale or in the bargain bin

And look for Evil Genius... a lot of fun

Not fair, I don't get to enjoy it online, my Ping to US servers is so big that ever time I get into one I'm lagging and get headshotted. It's a great game, BF2, however.

I don't understand why you would get such high ping. I play on international servers and the ping is usually playable.

I suggest BF2 too for online play, and FEAR for the story single player mode.

I play on international servers all the time and my ping is usually reasonable enough to play on. There's MANY servers in the UK too.

It might be a cause of slow internet connection too, I don't have blazing high speed internet, but when a few friends and I would coordinate, I would host the game from my house, and we would all get on it, and wow was it much more playable.

When I moved into my apartment in late August, our internet connection was horrible. We had 256 kbit download and upload speeds, and while I sometimes suffered lag when attempting to connect, the game speed was no different than with a mbit connection.

This is very odd. Then there must be something interfering with my connection; everyone else here seems to be fine when they connect to international ones.

Christmas came early for me. I got GT Legends (had to get UK version from Gogames, no US version yet). It's great, if you like driving games with straight-up racing (no prostitutes or picking out your driver's clothes, sorry boys). It's so good that I would use an expletive if it were allowed. Taking a Mini Cooper toe-to-toe with a 'stang on a short track is fun.
Christmas Mk.II wil be February 2nd when Oblivion is on my hard drive.

You must be very new to computer gaming if you haven't heard of that game.

Suppose so. Most of my old school gaming was Where in the World is Carmen San Diego, Oregon Trail, and King's Quest - our computers were an old IBM (with a cd drive upgrade) and then a packard bell. Not much ran on them. I mainly grew up on consoles - my old nintendo (original) and sega genesis were my workhorses back in the day. Then came the Gameboy, Sega Gamegear, N64, dreamcast, ps2, and xbox. I love me a console.

I'd like to get AOE III. because you know, they say it sux compared to AOEII; but if AOEII dies I'll have to play III, I'm not going to pay $70 for it

I would say Battlefield 2, Half Life 2, FEAR, Doom3, Star Wars:Battlefront 2. If you get Battlefield 2, make sure you get the Spec Ops expansion pack too.
