Does your firewall allow BF2 to connect to its server? Do you have F@H running? - it used to make some of my games crash to my desktop

F@H - folding at home. If you don't know what it is, then you don't have it, it is a program you would have to download, so we can rule that out.

Go to My Documents and rename the Battlefield 2 folder to something else... I had a problem with mis-matching game files and config files that caused this. Moving that folder made BF2 create a new one with the correct version. You'll have to re do your settings and key assingments, and login info though.

Go to My Documents (from the Start menu, lower left hand corner of the screen). Find the folder named Battlefield 2, right click it and select Rename. Then name it BF2 or Battlefield 2b or something like that, and hit enter. Then try starting the game and see what happens.

What I'm thinking is, is that your configuration/profile files are at the wrong version. Don't worry, you won't lose any of your stats or anything, you'll just have to reset your video settings and key assignments, and retype your username/password in the login screen.

Unfortunately I don't see your video card on this list:

Quote:
Video Cards
Battlefield 2 only supports the following video cards:
Radeon X700 (PCIe)
Radeon X600 (PCIe)
GeForce 6600 (PCIe)
GeForce PCX 5900 (PCIe)
GeForce 5800 Series (AGP)
ATI Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition
ATI Radeon X800 PRO
ATI Radeon 9800 Series
ATI Radeon 9600 Series
ATI Radeon 9550 (RV350LX)
ATI Radeon 9500 / 9700 Series
ATI Radeon 8500 Series
ATI Radeon X300 Series
NVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra
NVidia GeForce 6800 GT
NVidia GeForce 6800
NVidia GeForce FX 5950 Series
NVidia GeForce FX 5900 Series
NVidia GeForce FX 5700 Series
I think BF2 needs Pixel shader 2.0, and I don't think your card supports it. This happened to me with MOH:PA, I got it and my card at the time didn't support PS 2.0 and wouldn't run.

Maybe, maybe not. I'm not really sure. Don't give up just yet...but I don't think it supports DX9.0x (it is DX8.1)...anyone know for sure?

Yeah...as long as the video card supports it (like DX and PS requirements) then anything will run it...

One working solution for this

Hi all!

I was able to contact our local support fellow here in Finland. He gave me this information.

He said that this problem is not related video drivers since there are so many different graphics card, both NVIDIA and ATI, with similar problems. Even those that are officially supported by the game.

He said that following things may help:

If your windows user account includes scandic letters, create new account and reinstal the game. He mentioned that this has been a major case for this crashing problem here in nordic countries.

VIA mobo users should use VIA original drivers (www.viaarena.com) not those offered by board manufacturer.

DirectX files should be updated.

My coversation lead to conclusion that I should format C and reinstal Windows. I did that, installed VIA original drivers and gave a clean instal for the game. Then I patched it strigh to 1.12. No more patching failed errors No more CTDs. Game is up and running.

Hopefully this may help some of u even though formatting and reinstalling the Windows is a bit hardcore fix for some game problem.
