What will a laptop handle?

I just bought a Dell Inspiron 6000 with these specs...
2.0 Pentium M 760 (2MB Cache/533 MHz FSB)
1 Gig shared 533MHz Ram (2 Dimms)
128 Mb Radeon x300 PCI Express x16 graphics card

I'm really not sure as to whether or not I could play (keyword is "play" not just run) a game like Doom 3 on it or if I should stick to much less deamnding games. System Recommendations are about as helpful as they aren't since I'm looking to smoothly play the games and not just run them. Any input as to what "level" of games I could play would be great and if anyone has a similar system it would be great to know what your laptop can handle.

It would be nice to know if these games in particular would run well or not
Diablo 2
GTA San Andreas
Doom 3

P.S Any good PC RPG's out for PC?

thanks

Hope this helps

Hi there,

Dont get doom , you wont be able to play it smoothly unless you turn off some of the details such as AA and AF.

GTA will run fine, just remember to turn down the draw distance. I have it running on a GFMX graphics card from year 2000. lol!
Not sure about diablo though. Im sure someone else will help you with that.

thanks...

I knew doom was a longshot, but playing gta anywhere I go should prove to be a blast! A friend says a few kids around campus run diablo on their laptops and my emachines 2.6ghz celeron 512mb ram handled the game great so that one shouldn't be much of a worry.

Also, will a laptop have incompatable chipsets or problems with direct x?

Looks like that should play any game out there now, at decent settings.

A good rule of thumb is to keep in mind that laptops aren't going to be able to game very well. My friend has a Dell Inspiron 9300 with a 6800 GO and it plays Doom 3 very well, yet he's had problems getting BF2 to work. My laptop is a compaq with a 1.6 ghz 64 bit Turion processor, 512 mb ram, and a Radeon xpress 200M integrated graphics. I can run the Sims 2 very well with everything set to low. That is the only graphically intensive game that I have tried though, the only others were AOE II and Rise of Nations, and they both run exceptionally well.

Good luck and hope this helps.

Diablo 2 will run no problem, since it is the lowest spec game there.

I think Diablo 2 would run on just about anything.

I play World of Warcraft, sims 2, Vampire Masquerade, SWAT, and Morrowind on the laptop in my sig with no problem. Graphics usually at medium, these are not really graphic intensive games tho. I would think yours would give similar performance.

You could download the Doom III demo and see how it runs. Having to turn down the AA, AAF, and some details is not the end of the world...
