Low fps in Q4 - Do I deserve it?
I seem to be capped at 30 frames per second in quake 4. I think I should be getting at least 50(or I would like to) but I never can seem to see any difference in my frame rate even after changing video settings to low quality and turning anti-aliasing off.
Here are my specs: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ @ 2.0 ghz, 1 GB RAM, chaintech 6600SE, Chaintech NVF4 Zenith series. I should be getting higher frames than 30, right? |

Not so sure about that. I don't have Q4, but I've heard it's fairly demanding of graphics cards (as are ALL the new games recently). Your 6600SE is the weak link, and probably won't get you much better than that. Look at it this way...in COD2 multiplayer, I get from high 30's to high 70's with my sig rig. Granted, it's a different game, but the demands are similar and I would expect better performance out of my gpu than yours.

Right. There's nothing wrong with 30 fps.

Call of duty 2 stutters all over the place with everything turned on . I dont think q4 is that demanding.

What most people fail to realize is that FPS really is just a way to test the system and make sure that it is running smoothly. If it is running smoothly and you arent having any noticable difficultys making your bullets count I wouldn't worry about it. Now if you are jerking around all over the place and such then maybe you need to look into a new GFX card, but until then enjoy. Everyone is so concerned with FPS and it really doesn't matter as long as the game is working IMHO. I could be wrong, but i really don't stress about my FPS if the game is working as it should.

30 FPS sounds about right for that card.

I don't believe he has a PCI-E slot so I doubt he would be able to use that 7800GT.
