Running Games in Windowed Mode?
Hey, does anyone know how to run a fullscreen program or game in a windowed mode? Is it even possible? Thanks

I know in some fullscreen games like GW there is a key combo to make it so you see the taskbar and what I am assuming you call "window mode". I think it is alt + enter. Never really tried it with other programs.

It depends on the game. Are you thinking of a specific game?

Most games that can run in windowed mode don't run too well when you have them in windowed mode.

All of my game's brightness reverts to the Desktop brightness setting and can't be changed in windowed mode. So all the 3D games and applications are too dark to play effectively without changing the brightness on the monitor everytime. I don't know if this is just Direct3D or what but you can try it.

Alot of games have an option for windowed mode in the settings, take a snoop around and see if you spot anything. Also to try and fix the problem perhaps a complete GFX driver reinstall (use DriverCleaner) and DirectX would help. Not sure on that, though its worth a shot.

Well the game is called Gunz Online, its still in a sorta beta version. Theres no option for windowed mode, but i'll try alt enter. What i mean by windowed mode is where you can see the startmenu and quicklaunch and other stuff on the bottom. I dont mind about the performance, its on a laptop, which is already bad enough. I can fix brightness settings on the monitor. If Alt Enter doesnt work, does anyone know what else might work? |

If the game does not support windowed mode it won't work. When you hit that combo either you will be sent back to the desktop and hitting it again will bring back the game, or nothing will happen as some games disable that combo in case the user presses it by accident.
Unless you try the Compatibility Wizard, but I've never used it for games designed for XP so I wouldn't know how to set it up that way, but you can experiment with it. |
