Ageia PhysX

Is anyone else interested in the Ageia PhysX card? From what I have read and seen (videos on THIS page) it looks like a winner! It could really make games more realistic and immerssive. Is anyone else excited about it?

Yeah I read about it in an issue of Maximum PC a few months ago. Sounds interesting!

Definetly an interesting idea. Although the price is difficult to take. I have a hard enough time spending $300 for a new video card, but then I have to spend a couple hundred more for a PhysX?

Don't get me wrong, it is an exciting new technology that could really change gaming.

Like MaximumPC said in the latest issue: "2006 will be the year Ageia hits it big or goes bankrupt"

I thought they were going to start incorperating the physics chips into new video cards themselves, or am I WAY off?

It is a worth investment, but honestly, at the moment I don't have any games which are made to use this technology and I don't think I will want to go out and buy 5 new games just so I can get the physics out of them. I will wait and see, there are other things on my list first.

I was catching up on this technology when I was researching UT2007. Apparently it's going to be a couple hundred for a board using I believe a basic PCI slot and can only be used by games supporting Ageia. However they are saying that the technology will most likely be incorporated onto motherboards in the future when more games will be supporting it. It sounds like a real promissing technology. I'd like to see the difference in hardware requirements of upcoming games if you have this board. If it will take some load off the processor or what.

It will take a huge load off the processor. Physics is very CPU intensive. A seperate physics chip designed specifically for that purpose will do a better job and leave the CPU to other tasks.

Well, I hope it really lowers the processor requirements for UT2007.
