Check out this article on the X1800 Crossfire...
http://techreport.com/reviews/2005q4...e/index.x?pg=1
Lots of tests comparing several high-end cards and extensive benchmarking. Seems the 7800GTX is still on top. |

WOW, nice comparision, I also got to see how my dual 6800s matched up against the 7800gt(x)s.

Right now, I'm starting to lose faith in ATI. Once the x1800xt came, they did not par up with the 7800GTX. Also, the Crossfire should have been released awhile ago, but they did not, and there are very few motherboards that support it. I guess I know what graphics card is going to be in my next build.
Also, Asus just released their SLI x16 motherboard, which will increase gaming performance, while ATI has a few Crossfire motherboards. I just hope they plan to raise their game.

ATI is falling behind I think. Plus the 7800gtx had so much, and well deserved, hype around it, I think nVidia will be staying on top for a while.

does ASUS currently have any crossfire boards out? and isn't it a little bit inefficeient for the actual crossfire to be out of the comp unlike the SLI which is like this thing that connects the two GPU...

Yes, there is an ASUS Crossfire mobo on Newegg, at least there was a couple days ago when I searched. No feedback yet, not that I trust any feedback left there.
ATI definately has fallen behind. If I were building now it would be a 7800 of some flavor all the way, and I've always used ATI products. I prefer ATI's driver support, with monthly updates of the Catalyst, but it still boils down to hardware, and they aren't getting it done. I'm going to wait until spring to see if ATI pops a surprise, but if not I'm going to add a 7800GTX 512 (they should be far cheaper by then).

I wouldn't doubt if ATI releases their PE version like they always do. The GTX is Nividia PE version.

Turbo91Bird,
Not to hijack the thread, but how do you like the AS 5 on your X850XT? Did you see a huge drop in temps with it and is it quieter than the stock fan? Been thinking about getting one...................... |

Quiet = Yup
Temps at idle right now on my card are 36C, load is usually around 42-44C. They are cheap on xoxide.com and worth it in my opinion. |

Inq has a say about this that Ati is so afraid of Nvdia that they massively produce the cards so that it would be easily available. But in perspective, Ati only leapt once which is the 9xxx series vs FX5. The rest are all nvidia

afraid? I doubt that. It isn't that big of a difference to where your going to notice anything other than a few points in 3dmark05's. The ATI people will stick to their ATI cards and the Nvidia people will stick with theirs. There is no huge difference between the 2 overpriced JUMBO cards right now to go jumping sides because one is visually better than the other.
