Those are no differnet from the graphics given with a 7800gt or gtx... I get very closely resembled screen shots too those with my dual 6800s with very high AA and AF, which is what was probably done to take those images... what you don't get out of a screen shot is how many frames per second the game run at with graphics so highly rendered. I am pretty sure a PS3 is released with a 7800gt or equivilant card, though I am not 100% sure and I haven't been keeping up with the specs of it.... perhaps someone else could shed some light.

Keep in mind you'll only get such quality images on an HDTV and a screen as big as the image on your screen. Once you start stretching it across a large TV you lose a bit of quality (still should be very nice though )

I do have a feeling that those might not be from actual game play, but perhaps from cut scenes and intro videos etc...

I agree. From what I've read in PSM magazine, most of those are prerendered shots from intro movies and the like. The writers for that magazine went to a show that they could play some of the pre-release PS3 games though, and they said the real in-game graphics weren't far behind those type of shots and that they were thoroughly impressed, especially being this early in development. After the game developers learn more about how to utilize the hardware of the new PS3 system, the graphics will only get better.

Well thats good to know but what are the PS3 chances against its rival Xbox 360?

Ive always thought that Xbox graphics were so much better than Playstation so i was gonna buy the 360 for christmas but ive now changed my mind and im gonna purchase the Ps3 when its hopefully released in Spring 2006.

From what i have read on some websites the Xbox 360 is way behind with the graphics as someone from sony said.

I believe those screenshots are pre-rendered. I'm not buying a console anytime soon but there's one thing for sure, Sony won't get my money.

The 360 certainly isn't "way behind" on graphics. Were you reading some PS3 fanboy sites or what? Besides, the PS3 isn't even out yet, so how would anyone know which has the better graphics.

Gameplay rules over graphics anyway...

Very well said... but you have to admit - awesome graphics certainly add to the fun, but poorer ones don't stop me from playing the game... take FarCry for example, very good plot and a nice challenging game (for me at least) with pretty good graphics (when everything is on high) but it has nothing on some other games out there graphically.

The developers haven't been able to show playable demos at the shows yet I think due to the controller still being redesigned. Those are all prerendered movies for PS3 so far. As far as x360 graphics, I played Madden in BestBuy last week, and I thought the graphics were very very choppy. Terrible frame rates.

Like I said above, PSM said in their magazine that they DID play a demo version on the PS3. Now whether its using the old PS2 controller, I'd say that's a good probability because yeah, the new controller seems to be having design issues. I believe they played that demo at a show in Japan, as I recall.....might've been E3 though. Either way, I just remember them saying they got to play a level or two on some game and that's what they were reporting on.

As for the PS3's chances against the Xbox 360, I think the PS3 will still win out this time. From what I've read, the cell processor in the PS3 should still be stronger than what's in the 360. Plus, the thing is, Sony has a huge following already in previous Playstation and PS2 owners. Xbox has to come out with something that is unmistakably superior in order to steal those loyal customers away. If they just keep coming out with "equal to" systems, I don't see Sony losing the console wars anytime soon.

Definetly! I love pretty graphics. It certainly does add to the game, there is no mistaking that. However, I would take a slightly less pretty game that is fun to play over an absolutely beautiful one that is not fun at all.

the blame for that very rushed version of madden falls on ea's shoulders not m$. if you look at pgr3 or cod2 for the 360, very nice graphics.
and gears of war looks impressive also.
each next gen system will have its strengths and weaknesses....

Does anyone know if they are really putting a Linux version on the Hard drive like IGN.com's PS3 FAQ article says?

I also just cant wait to see if Rockstar will develop another Grand theft auto game for the Ps3 as the graphics will be outstanding.

Does anyone know if there will be another Gta?

When the PS3 is released - no. A couple of generations of games later - maybe.

But there's no way to know for sure... Many times the 'hype screenshots' never end up looking like the games graphics themselves, but I think we can expect something along those lines (of what you've shown us).

The PS3 is a year out. You're looking at distant future tech.

Yeah but i soppose i will have to wait a whole year before i can get my hands on one

As i expect people will get greedy and be buying 2 or 3 ps3s and selling them on ebay to make a profit and not thinking of the people that cant get one as the shops have sold out exactly like they have been doing with the Xbox 360.

I think it will be even harder to get the Ps3 than it has been trying to get the Xbox 360.

Also does anyone know what the Ps3 will be priced at?
Apparently its going to be priced around the £400 region.

Just like with the 360, I want to see how the PS3 will play out in the pirating world... I know here in BA just about everyone with a PS2 has it chiped to they can buy games for 1/20 the cost of a new retail (real) game.... I am guessing Sony might be implementing something making it harder to pirate so they make more money off the game, but I guess we will have to wait and see.

Did they finally decide to do it that way? I ask because I read an article awhile back that they were debating whether to do a dual release at the same time in both Japan and the U.S. Personally I've never really understood why they release it one place one time and then wait several months to release it in another country. Why not just release it the same day worldwide? It would seem like that would cut down on the problem of having people mod their consoles. If they can get it in their own country, they won't need to buy a foreign console and adapt it so it will run their own country's games later on.

ya just decribed Rep of Kosova, Albania, Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, and Bosnia in ONE WORD. WHen i Go down there for summer hat's all i hear, see; and think is only europe like this. People that chip PS2 do have a point though, the market charges so much for a simple game, and yet they sell thousands and thousands of those games. Ryan, if ya really want a PS3 ya should wait a while till prices soar, also thats the time that more games come out, expect people to sell their games for 3/4 of their price in e-bay, expect that others will not like the commercially sugar-coated games. I expect the next GTA to totally suck..people will get sick of MR BAD BOY running all over town shooting things.
