i know there's good help here, and im obviously new. im not sure exactly where to post this.. so if this is the wrong forum dont get PO'd at me for making a mistake, plz.. im only looking for help
i just upgraded my Sprint DSL speed from 512kbps to 5mbps (whereas im gettin around 4.6mbps) and im big on online gaming. At moment i play old-school Alien Vs. Predator 2 and i had hoped that the upgrade of almost 10x the speed would up my online pings. but, as ive noticed im a lil dissapointed that my pings r practically the same... around 190-130ms. im running on Sprint ADSL 5mbps/640kbps (Down/Up) im running Windows Xp Service Pack2 on Dell Dimension 8200, w/ P4 1.7Ghz - 256m RD RAM - 60g HD im not sure what exactly i need to do to help make things easier for other users to help me out, so any advice is good advice Lastly, if theres anything i can do to jack the speeds up w/o crucially screwin up my PC im willing to learn- i just need a direction as im still green to this-thnx |

The ping isn't going to change with a faster download speed (unless your old speed was too slow). Ping is the time it takes for data to reach your computer from the server (or the other way around, and some times it is meausred in round trip: your computer, server, back to your computer).
Try disabling any anti-virus or firewalls (just for testing purposes) and see what happens to your ping.
